Anybody on here install the Baer track rear disc kit? having a problem finding parking brake cables and looking for someone who may have dealt with this issue?
I bought the Baer specific cables per the park # baer gave me for $130 and the cable housing is very short and won't reach the caliper. I have calipers mounted at about the 1:00 position. If I hade mounted on front at about 10:00 that might have worked.
I'm calling baer tomorrow to see what they tell me. maybe they have another option for a cable.
I really don't feel like pulling everything apart and moving caliper position plus I don't like how the calipers mounted to front looks.
From what MS says the newer mustangs have the same type end but from pics they look very long so I don't think I could make those work.
I also have the TCP coil overs in back that are going to make routing a little difficult as well.

I have Baer rear discs, which I believe were called "street/track" with calipers mounted at approximately 1 o'clock. The parking brake cable is routed via a T5 crossmember support, then to the calipers. For reference, the 12 o'clock position is at the top of the wheel and 1 o'clock would be 30 degrees counter clockwise from the 12 o'clock position. I am not clear on your mounting position reference points. My parking brake cable, which I purchased from Baer, is the correct length. Let me know if I can provide further information.

Here is a pic of the calipers installed on rear before in put in the car another from under the car and you can see the location the cable connects to caliper. If I could find the old Baer part number that might help me out. Baer gave me the company that builds the cables for them and with that number they might be able to put one together without me having to come up with all the dimensions.

I'm wondering if I could route a set of factory cables over the housing(shortest distance) and if that would reach my calipers and then I would just need a way to change the end from ball to the circular/loop style.
As a alternative I could look at re-clocking the calipers to around 10:00 so they are towards front of car and that would make them a lot shorter then the cable baer sent my work. I just don't like the look of calipers on the front side of the wheel. Not to mention having to pull everything apart and swapping calipers from one side to the other.

For some reason, I can't upload photos. My caliper mounting bracket is different and does indeed sit at the ten o'clock position. Additionally, when mounted at the ten o'clock position, the bleed valves are located at the highest point and it appears that your calipers must mount in the one o'clock position to locate the bleed valves at the highest point. My parking brake cable, purchased from Baer, would not be long enough for your application.

I can clock my calipers in different positions. To mount like yours in around 10:00 I would have to swap the calipers from one side to the other so bleed screw is on top. I am trying to come up with a solution to not have to change caliper positions. Baer did get me the old part numbers for the cables and the company that builds the cables for them is supposed to contact me so hopefully they still have the diagram and can build them.
thanks

If you cannot find a company to build the cables, try Control Cables:
. I have used them for one off throttle cables, clutch cables, etc. and they build custom emergency/parking brake cables. Good luck.REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
