New hood hinges. Left/right hood adjustment??

Finally replaced the ancient floppy hinges in the 69 but even though the hood seems straight, it hangs over on the driver's side. I know how to adjust up and down and front to back, but left to right??

Re: New hood hinges. Left/right hood adjustment??

Assuming the sides of the hood are parallel to the fenders, the side-to-side clearance is determined and regulated by the four rubber stops that press into the slots of the fenders. I have seen numerous cars driven without those in place, and it makes it impossible for the hood to stay centered. Their absence also allows the hood to shake sideways and chip pain on the fenders and hood.

To adjust a hood, always make sure the cowl joint is exactly parallel as measured with dial calipers or other accurate device.  Then adjust the fenders to get the correct side gaps.

Re: New hood hinges. Left/right hood adjustment??

When I did my 69 hood I would get the bolts so they were slightly tight.  So I could move the hood  when it was down but not to much.  When it was aligned when it was down I would have some one lift it up enough to get a wrench in there and tighten so it wouldn't move. I kept do that until I had it perfect.  Its a PIA a little bit one way throws something else off.   I believe I did the adjusting with the springs off too.
