anyone have experience removing these? What's the best method: plasma cutter, blue tip wrench, ???

j-kb if you really need room between the shock towers, a much better alternative to a MII or double wishbone IFS is to use a unistrut IFS. There are several mfgrs, Gateway, Fatman, RRS to name a few.
Double Wishbone isn't really suited to the partial subframe semi-monocoque unibody, found in our Stangs. You can Use Dynacorn's new notched shock tower
Take weight off the front suspension, have a better handling car, better brakes, cheaper than with the MII IFS.
I mean now would oleUnkTubo lead you astray??

I used a plasma on mine, but the torch set would work as well. And by all means stick with the double wish bones which is more like your original stuff. Struts are for cheapy new cars that are assembled cheap!! The MII set up is quite good and works well. I have the adjustable ride height threaded shocks on mine and they work great. I did add a brace on mine from the firewall to the front of the frame rail. It is a piece of tubing that I use for my wireway also. Keeps the wires hidden. If you get the bolt in panels to close the fender well area with the kit, your front will be quite stiff. Think about extending your sub-frame connectors forward to the reinforced pieces that you weld on the frame rails as a reinforcement. You are going to love all that room under the hood!

thanks all.......double wish bone set up is what i'm considering.....gonna have to measure again to ensure it'll work for an LS1 conversion......especially hate to do surgery only to find the engine won't fit...

I was looking at my Bro In laws 2010 Camaro SS Engine and I dont know a lot about them but I was supprised at how narrow it was. To me it didn't look any bigger than a 351.

which is why I reccomend Unistrut over the M2. Unistrut fits into the unibody's monocoque, dosen't require chopping the car up, and is less expensive to install.
All of which is why j-kb's ol'buddy Tubo, reccomends the Unistrut, not cos I'm a fan boy.

Alright that's the second time I've seen that word used in this post. "Monocoque" I was going to let it slide the first time cuz I was too lazy to look it up, butt(TS) now I'm gonna have to see what the heck that means.

One thing that sickens me is when I walk up to a really nice Ford at a carshow and see someone muck it up with a Chevy engine and generally they say its cheaper!! well if you cant afford it DONT DO IT!! just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know about the bow tie thing, but if you need the room under the hood the MII setup if only way to go on an early Mustang. It keeps the dynamics of the car more like original which is darn good. I know of a lot of MII conversions with a lot of miles on them with no problems. Some do have reinforcements some do not. Mine has a 1.5 OD .095 wall piece of tube running along the inner fender at top of apron from fire wall forward then down to front frame rail. I run all my wiring through it so I don't have wires all over the place under the hood. The ones I know of that are street cars do not have any braces and still look great and drive line a modern car. They still handle great like the original with the Shelby drop. I like MS's approach with the notched shock towers if that can work.
I do know a little about the LS stuff, my daily driver has an LS3 at 436 HP. My little 331 cube Ford powered Mustang will show it tail lights though.

Bottom line is I gots two Mustangs a 95 with struts that I race (it is in the trailer now and I am heading out in the morn) and a 65 with the MII (used to be stock). I have to run 5+ degrees of negative camber on the 95 with struts to get the tires to work well. I run 1.25 degrees of negative camber on the 65 with the MII to get same results. The delightful camber curve on the double wishbones is awesome. Have you ever seen an F1 car with struts? If the rules I race under would allow, I sould change the 95 in a flash. My street car that drives like a new one is actually faster than my race car. And it does not eat tires like the 5+ degrees of negative camber does on the race car. The 65 was better stock than the strut car is in full race trim. Struts are just for grocery getters, so if that is your goal, by all means have at it. Oh, did I say they suck!
