Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

Looks like the motor brackets on my old 390 powered mustang after I drove it for a while. Poor brackets never stood a chance.

I've always found that wrenches and screw drivers work better on screws and bolts than cold chisels!(:-)

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

I wondered why when I 'nailed-it" I could "feel" it in the clutch pedal and accel. pedal. Bolts never had a chance.  Snapped them in two and tore the rubber off!
Will probably do the bolt-thru-the-mount-trick again when I buy a new one.
Now that I give it some thought.......... when the accel. pedal would torque over it would make the gas go on & off like when you "pat-the-gas".  It's been doing this a while...just got worse. Full throttle and the gas going on & off.....on & off is probably why my rear universal  broke in two this summer!
It-could-happen!

PS.......Just wanted to share the carnage. Maybe bigger bolts woulda helped?!

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

Sal, order replacements from rockauto. That's where I got mine, the price was great and they fit well. Anchor brand.....

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

Longer bolts with nuts should fix that...

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

For 66's.........(after)  are the mounts side specific (either left side or right side)  OR will a new mount fit either side?
Also......is 'left side' the driver side?

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

Mike, those look like slotted machine screws with threads all the way up to the head. Those things are dead soft, next time use 3/8” grade 8 bolts long enough so that there are no threads in the grip range
What you have there is the reason I went to Prothane motor mounts, they will never end up looking like that.

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

Mounts for 66 and later style are same right or left.

Left, Right, Front and Rear are always oriented from sitting in the driver's seat.

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

I used 3/8”-16  grade 8 bolts (2 per side)...of course this is 65 mounts.
With loc-tite of course too.

Maybe not. There were three different designs of motor mounts used during the ‘66 model year. At least one of them is sold individual Left or individual Right. I ended up buying all three styles to get a pair that fit my car. Rockauto has dates, styles and pictures. Plus, the mounts are cheap at Rockauto.

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

Sal,
Been a while since I was able to work on cars, but, if memory serves, that mount is broken and most likely cannot be properly repaired.
Better,
Al

Re: 'Mow-der' mount issues.......

ITS A ENGINE NOT A MOW-DER.....THE FIRST QUESTION MY AGRICULTURE TEACHER ASKED ME IN HIGH SCHOOL  WAS '( WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MOTOR AND A ENGINE?)  I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT KNEW....CAUSE MY DADDY ASKED ME ONE DAY AND HE LEARNED IT IN THE AIR FORCE IN 1949.

BUT I CALL THEM MOTORS TOO....LOL
