A thought crossed my mind when Mustang Steve said Lt Dan's Bash trip was epic because he drove  almost 6,400 miles round trip with only minor issues. So rpm, being the Bash host this year, decided to make an executive decision and award Lt Dan the Inaugural LT DAN AWARD for Most Epic Road Trip In A Classic Mustang. Dan received his award via UPS today. You done well Dan.

Now the annual challenge is posted to try and beat it.  No new award unless someone outdoes the current award holder.

Anybody up for my idea of “1,000 miles in a day in a classic Mustang” challenge?

I like both of those ideas, and will aim to compete in both.

Too late MS.

Steve, Glen, and I accomplished this feat starting Sunday into Monday morning.
We drove from Bakersfield, CA to Van Horn, TX.
BTW, I did not hear about this until we stopped for the night.

Here’s my screenshot at 9:06 am next morning.

Welp, nice try El Tee. But I believe the challenge involves more than that.

Although its been a few years, the pony has brought me a few awards, but I must say my favorite award was this one, not quite as long as Dans, but I think it is what MS intention of the bash were all about, Do hope to get to another one someday and yes it will be in the Pony

Hey Jim Bowie-Jim Bowie (he was a bold adventurous man !)
What's the latest on your engine and hydraulic flat tappet adventure?
Ya find any lifters with enough quality in them to last through a break-in !
I never read about the results........

Still at machine shop, engine boiled out, took summer off, life got in the way, maybe start on things over winter, haven't decided what we are going to use yet.

1000 miles in a day??? Wow - I just drove 200 miles from Seattle to Portland area and my butt and back were complaining - and that was in my 2017 Explorer! Your "equipment" must be better suited to long haul drives.

That was quite an accomplishment.  I look forward to meeting up somewhere and doing a 1,000 mile day with the group.  At least, with the group having capable cars!  For a challenge like that one, the owners must make damn sure their cars are capable before starting out.  We all know that ANYTHING can happen, but due diligence is an absolute requirement to cover 1,000 miles in one day in an old Mustang.

I have one of those Long Distance awards as well. From Canyon Lake, TX to Michigan for the BobC Bash in Dearborn, MI.

The secret to beating Dan at a LD Award is to go to a bash that is close to his place!

There are many who have earned this long before me.

That's not any guarantee .... He'll probably go via Houston.

Just curious, since Atlantic Mine to Bakersfield is only about 2300 miles, why was his round trip distance 6400 miles?  Did he get lost or do you count a meandering route?

Well, according to Gargle Mops, total mileage from Atlantic Mine to Marysvill, Ks (Allan' place) to Pine Junction, CO (RV6's Place) to Montrose, CO (my place) to Bako (the bash) to Houston,TX (Glen and Steve and Coupe Daddy's Place.  And Dans brother, I think) and then back to Atlantic Mine, MI is a total of over 5600 miles.  Add in all the general running around everywhere (I know he did around 300 at the bash, I know I did) and it ain't hard to see just short of 6400 miles.
Hell of a  cruise, LT.  Proud of you and your very fine '65.  Everyone should strive to make their classic drive as sweet at your car.  Mine is decent but I will work hard to make it as fine as yours.

I think the meandering route is totally valid, as long it is all in the same trip with the purpose being to get to the bash.  It just shows confidence in the car and a willingness to get out and drive it, which is why the bash was started in the first place.

Those Long Distance awards are truly earned.

You have to add my place in twice. He stopped in going to the bash and on the way home. That adds a couple hundred miles. Really enjoyed his company.

Valid question.

Home- Atlantic Mine, MI
Axtell, KS
Pine, CO
Montrose, CO
Bakersfield, CA
Goshen, CA 😁
Bakersfield, CA
Van Horn, TX
San Antonio, TX
Austin, TX
Leander, TX
Katy, TX
Oklahoma City, OK
Axtell, KS
Home before the first snow on Halloween day.

These were the major stops.

“1/4 tank” level was checked few times.
A 22 gallon tank allows me plenty of options for filling up.

Now, if I could only drive to QLD, Australia.😁

We got a bit of snow on a coupla nights in the week after the Bash in the Sierras. CA

Dan, we'll hav'ta wait for a bridge to be built. Which reminds me of this joke.

An old car guy was walking along one of Queenslands sandy beaches. He suddenly spots this bottle which has recently washed up on the beach. It's obvious it's been tossed around for a long time. He picks up the bottle and notices that it still has the cork intact. So, being curious as to what may be inside, he manages to get the cork out and out pops a Genie. After expressing profound appreciation for having been let out of the bottle, the Genie grants his benefactor the classic, "one wish" and it will be yours. Being an avid driver, it doesn't take him long to say,
"I've always wanted to go to California and drive the length of the PCH, but I get seasick on ships and I'm afraid to fly. Would you build me a bridge to California?"The Genie replies:
"Do you know what you are asking for? Do you know how long the bridge would have to be? Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. And the maintenance of that bridge! No, think of another wish."The man said OK and tried to think of a really good wish. Finally, he said,
"I've been married and divorced three times. My wives always said that I don't care and that I'm insensitive. So, I wish that I could understand women ... know how they feel inside and what they're thinking when they give me the silent treatment ... know why they're crying, know what they really want when they say nothing ... know how to make them truly happy ... I really want to understand women and how they think!"After a long sigh, the Genie responds:
"Would you like that bridge with two lanes or four?"

I thought the Genie was going to turn him into a woman...  He's lucky the Genie didn't think of that.
