Yesterday I asked for Front end alignment figures for my 66 Coupe to take down to the alignment shop and while I waited for the results I fitted the resistors to put the engine light out. I checked and double checked the connections and fired it up. Engine light went out and car ran beautiful as always but then suddenly shut off as if I had switched it off. Since then it has no spark. I hooked it up to the code reader and I got codes 11, 10, 14 so tested again and got 10, 11, 10 which seems to suggest all ok but still no go. I cleared the codes as per the code reader manual but still no go.
Any idea what I have done or could it be a bad resistor ??? Thanks for any help once again. The sun is shining here and I want to get the car out of the garage for a change.

I always start with whatever I did last when a problem occurs shortly after I worked on something. I would verify the resistors are good, still in place, and that you didn't disturb anything else while installing them as a first step.

Did you address code 14 on initial set of codes?

14 = PIP circuit failure

It is the little do hickey inside distributor at bottom…English translation. 😁

Check wiring for loose connections first.
Especially if you messed with harness.

I have double checked the wiring again and it is all good. I checked for a live to the coil and that is good. I changed the TFI module for a tested one but still no go. I am awaiting a new coil and distributor pick up as the engine always started straight up with no problems and ran sweet. The code 14 threw me a bit but I have rechecked and that code no longer comes up. Obviously there is no spark which is the cause of the problem. Im hoping its a coincidence and that the coil just happened to go out as fitting the resistors was very easy. If I change the coil and still no go, I will disconnect the resistors and see what gives.

Graham, I'm assuming you placed a resistor bridge into the EGR circuit to fake out the PCM and turn off the MIL. If that's the case, I'm curious where you tapped wires 26, 27, and 46 to connect the resistors. Wire 26 is VREF and wirae 56 is PIP. They come off of the main PCM conneactor fairly close to each other and it might be pretty easy to get 56 instead of 26 if you installed the EGR by-pass resistors close to the PCM. Just sayin'.
I'm with TKO, go back to the last thing you did and un-do it. See if that cures the problem. Been there many times.

After making it my mission to get this sorted, I spent the afternoon tracing all the wiring I have done and in the end it turned out to be the Distributor pick up coil. Luckily I had one in stock so fitted it and she fired right up on the button again. Just need to wait for it to stop raining now and we can get out and about.
