I’m to the pint of installing all the trim and seals in the roof rail opening for the doors. I can’t find a seal/gasket on NPD and if I recall my last build I bought something from Home Depot to use on the trim to roof.

I have the strip seal stuff, it’s maybe 1/8 and gray in color. I used it on the fenders. Should I use this same product for the roof trim or buy some strip foam from Home Depot?

Look on page 313 or 314 of the NPD catalog and you should find what you are looking for.

Two-sided foam tape works but I actually prefer the rope seal caulk stuff. One bead near the outer edge and one near the inner edge.
That stainless will scream like the devil going down the highway if not sealed up tight!

I searched for that weather strip seal and couldn’t find it. I ended up looking at the trim and it listed the part number for the foam seal.

MS I like your idea and I have plenty of rope chalk to use. Does it smash down well without deflecting the trim?

Yes
It is soft and stays that way. I just used some today on my 69 rear license plate light. The original foam gasket had dried up.

Also used some on the center stoplight fixture on the cab roof. Those trucks are bad about burning out the stoplight bulb and the bed light bulbs. Water running off the roof gets past the factory seal and kills the bulbs. Sealed across the top leading edge with rope caulk and bulbs last forever.

I have a new gas tank to install on my 69. Will use two rows of rope caulk seal around the perimeter. Works great!

Are you asking for to hold on the upper door weather strip retaining trim? It seamed like was a urethane but like the stuff in later wind Shields. Or Butyl Sealant Roof tape in black. But no one would know the difference if you used gray home depot sells rolls of it in building materials.

Yes the piece that sits against the metal of the roof. I bought the gray rope seal but it appears I had bought some black rope seal as well. The gray is in a big roll and the black is only like 10” strips in a box.

I do like the idea of using the gray to get a solid seal.

Between this trim on the metal mounting surface on part the roof. Picture is not of a car I own.

I do know that the oe adhesive tape sealer is not available for 69s. I used one inch wide by ~3/16" thick double sided tape.

Butyl tape or roof sealant tape it should be black to be correct. I had to clean alot of those up in the car shop everyone had black butyl tape or black roof Sealand.

This is what I used for gas tank and rear glass seal.

There are generic versions of this available now.
This was available locally, so this is what I used.
It is the same material as the windshield sealant rolls…just smaller.

Put a little WD-40 on your fingers to keep from sticking to you.
Works great for clean up of traces of this sticky mess.
Have a lint free rag available too…you’ll need it.
