Door glass not going up high enough to seal

These are aftermarket doors.  Suppose to be the better fitting doors from NPD and the only issue they can have is the wing window not fitting well.   Tested the wing window way back before I started bodywork but never checked the door glass.  The back corner of the glass has plenty of adjustment.  I can even hit the trim that holds the seal with the corner of the glass.  I need more upward adjust at the wing window end of the door glass.  The adjusters are not hitting and I even took them out to make sure nothing was hitting. I’m thinking I’ll have to elongate some holes to obtain the extra upward adjustment.   Thinking the center part of the door where the scissor part mounts would be a good place to start.   Any advice is more than welcomed, it’s needed.  Lol

Check the flange where the beltline weatherstrip fuzzies bolt on.  Lots of tomes the flange is not formed tight and it will catch the bottom glass/steel edge of the window, stopping it from going up about 1/2” to 3/4”.
The fix is to remove the lower door glass stop and put the glass down to an extreme low position. Put your fingers in the window slot and bend that flange with the fuzzy attached so it will clear the window lower frame.
I have had this happen with new door skins, so
I would imagine the complete doors are made that same way.


Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

I’ve already removed the stop.  Tomorrow I’ll look to see if that is my issue.   Praying it is.

Little late for that.  lol

I looked at the inside edge of the door this morning and I can’t see it hitting anything.  I don’t have the felt installed yet so I can see from the top down.

I suspect that the solution lies with an adjustment of the regulator or guide channel.  Somehow your window is tilted towards the front.


1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

I’ll keep digging and I do feel like I’m missing something simple but it is an aftermarket door so I still working on it.  Just not tonight.  Spent four hours in my truck in a traffic jam and still never made it to my original destination.

While this video doesn't start with your exact position issue, it does go over several of the adjustment bolts.  If you watch it, worst case is the loss of 18 minutes time for the chance it might help.
The second video shows pieces of the window on the workbench.

My glass buddy was here yesterday and even he couldn’t figure out what’s going on.   I’m now thinking I have an issue with the regulator.  It’s either to worn out or something is bent.    Passenger side is looking great.  There’s no tilt to the door glass.   

Maybe something in the new felt is causing issue?    More stuff to look at.

Think I got it.  I had to grind a little extra clearance to get the vent window to move forward a tad more.  Best progress I’ve had yet with it.

Oh.......BTW..... a MS helpful hint that saved me a few quarts of blood.....
Put several layers of tape around the sharp edges of the opening into the door.
(I WISH my pocket knife blade was that sharp !!! )

I actually deburred all the edges when I go the doors.  The aftermarket doors have really sharp edges.   But I love the tape idea and will use it that idea.   


Now I needed something to protect my arms while changing the alternator on my 2013 F150.   That was a tough job that tore my arms up.

BobE, I don’t do much if any side work anymore but will look into them.  Couldn’t hurt to them as long as they are snug fitting.

The ones I have have the thumb hold and fit snug enough.  They can get caught in tight spaces (like inside the doors), but at least you don't get cut up.  Although I would think the that tape option works quite well.
