I have the Vintage Air in-dash units in my 66 and my 69.  Both cars start smelling like a wire is trying to let the smoke out.after driven for a while with AC on.  Both AC units are wired exactly as Vintage Air said to do in the instructions.

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue?

That sounds like a good use for a thermal camera if you have one.  If there is a hot wire, such a camera would show it.

Been running my Vintage system since '16 and the birddog nose that rides with me has never complained about any smells....and she would.  How long has the 66 been doing this?  Does it get worse or is it just there?  Do you shut the system down when it starts to stink?

You probably already have done this, but  I would definitely feel as many wires as I could get my fingers on and see if any feel hot.  If it's smelling you would be able to feel the heat.  Don't want a fire or melting other wires that would be near it.

I've never noticed any smoke with my 69 vintage AC.  Only carburetor rich burning fuel...LOL

I haven't had this issue with the Vinage air system in my 65.
As stated already, check the wires for heat and anywhere there is a connector.  Poor connections will cause increased heat.
The suggested circuit breaker for my Vintage setup is 30 amp, make sure the wire size is correct to handle that current.  I would think 12AWG would be adequate.

Don't know if you could feel where the blower motor is. It may be the motor heating up not the wires. If it is the wires heating up that much they will probably be discolored. That way you could find it in the garage not going 85 down the highway.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.
