Ok, now I understand the question.
Yes the temporary pacemaker was put in the internal jugular vein.
Sorry for the confusion on my end.

That's what I thought.   It either goes in the IJ or the femoral vein in the groin.

I once got a shot of morphine down there. Was a little concerned where they were gonna stick me until they did. Oh boy did that work quickly. Good stuff.

Never heard of one getting a morphine shot in that area before.  I think I might know why now that I'm thinking about it.

When I worked in the EP lab I got growing access for all the doctors and would have their sheaths already inserted for them.

Speaking of RPM getting shot, well, in this case "a shot"... one of the many times I visited him in the hospital during his brief but very active LEO career something memorable happened. I'm not sure, but I think this was after the motor accident - he slid 300' down the freeway. Many injuries - broke two ribs, punctured a lung, broke a collarbone in two places, wore his helmet through to fabric, the visor cutting across his face, massive abrasions - other stuff. Maybe that was when he got his morphine shot, IDK...
I hardly recognized him he was so disfigured from the injuries and swelling. Kinda looked like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz.
Now that I think about it, could have been another time - anyway, he had a drain in his chest cavity, poked in through a couple of ribs. I think it was due to the collapsed lung - hell, I don't know. Doc comes in and without any warning, yanks it hard removing it in one big motion. Bub turned from pale to near dead looking - pallid? Must have hurt like a mofo but he was stoic. Kinda made me sick just seeing it happen.
Fun stuff being out there tryin' to protect and serve.

Oh boy, ya there was a bunch of pain involved in those incidents. And after each one I never thought twice about going back to work. Wasn't brave, just too dumb to know better.
