This past weekend I spent my time narrowing the seat frames to fit my DSE mini tubs.  I had started this process a long time ago to see if I could even get it to work.  I took a rusted seat frame and started cutting and bending.  I took a slightly different approach on how the bottom frame got narrowed, the top frame was pretty much the same way I had previously tested.

I ran out of hog rings so I still need to tug a pull the covers to get them secure and pretty looking.  The bottom seat is a very tight fit with the roll bar and the side panels are slightly curved different than the seat bottom sides.  They are just resting in there so I could see how they look and to give myself a little motivation.  Doesn’t look to bad with talking a total 3.5" out of the seat frames.

The dash pad is just sitting on the dash and in also replace the window regulator in the drivers door.  The window stays up when you shut the door now.  lol

I got more parts in the mail yesterday.  Hoping I can get the side panels painted this week, cover the package tray.  The material should be here by Thursday.  If all goes well I may have the interior all in by Sunday night or be very close.

I was pumped to work on it last night but forgot I had an online meeting for work.  Finished after 6:30 and by then I lost my energy and motivation.   Lol

But I can almost see the light now.

You’re making nice progress, and it looks great.
I’ll mention that I’m not sure what exhaust that you plan to install, but the OEM dual exhaust muffler hangers have support plates mounted in the interior, behind the rear seat, that I didn’t see in these pictures.  Just saying.

Dual exhaust for sure and it's crossed my mind.  In fact I'm again looking at mufflers and sound clips.  Thought I had a muffler picked out a month back and today I've changed my mind.  Looking Spin techs, the sportsman version.   I've also been looking a pipe kits so I can build my own exhaust.     Just need to make my mind up and pull the trigger.    Driveshaft should arrive today so can now build my exhaust around it.   It's a larger diameter driveshaft than the temp one I had in there.

Only the bottom of the top frame and the back of the lower frame were narrowed.  I believe it was 1.75 per side.

I'm all ears with input on exhaust.  I'm now looking at Spintech mufflers.   A lot of people like I think it was the pro model which are supposed to be very loud.  I'm all for a good exhaust but think I'll lean towards the 6000 series.  The pros are 9000.

Some question need answers first.....
Do you want it to sound like a modified street rod or.... a race car toned down to sound somewhat street legal
Does it have a real 'healthy' camshaft you want to accentuate at idle or....pretty smooth idle
Do you plan on listening to the radio while cruis'in or....enjoying the sounds of a high performance engine
Do you plan to have the tailpipes exit the rear or...in front of rear axle (or turn downs off the end of mufflers)
Do you have four tube full length headers or... arn mani's
Do you plan on 2 1/2" pipes from front to rear or...something smaller
Do you plan on having exhaust cut-outs or....Not
Which is higher on your list a quiet ride or...bubble& growl cruis'in down the road
Do you plan on your wife driving it or...just you and maybe your son
Do you like the "modern SBF" engine sound or...the old skool 60-ish sound of the SBF
Maybe these(and others) questions will help ya make the decision of what to buy because...
I think a lot of fellows put a system on and then regret it and redo the system and then change that and all the while buying & spending repeatedly...looking for that perfect sound they have in their head. (Axe-me-how-eye-no)

-Race car toned down
- aggressive cam yea I want to accentuate it!
-no plans for a radio
-turn down in front of the rear axle
-four tube full length headers
-2.5" pipe only because I don't think I can 3"
-I don't want cut outs but my son does
-bubble and growl. I want people to know it's there!
-wife will drive and I'll be building a 70 fastback for our son
-old school small block sound.  I'm not even going with an X or H pipe for a better rumble

The most difficult thing is trying to pick a sound from a recording and it's such a subjective topic it's hard to know how to take someone's response.  What one likes another may dislike.   It's really just trying to pick a brand not so much the sound because most have great sounding mufflers but some may drone more than others.   After reading so many posts, I'm leaning towards Spintech 6000 series.  I think the 9000 will be to much and the 3000 not enough.    So the 6000 feels like the safest one to go with.

Just so happens there's a pair of Spintech 6000 for sale in my city but they are 3" mufflers.  Not sure I want to run 2.5" pipe and then go into a 3" muffler.

^^This is the best idea !^^^
Cheapest way out to see IF you like the sound. With your skillz it won't be hard to adapt a 3" muff to a 2 /12" pipe. Certainly won't hurt anything!

(BTW....You sound like a man after mine own heart !!!!)

I WOULD put the cut-outs on it ..... You don't want to be like the black criminal in the first Dirty Harry Movie. Harry sez "during all the excitment I can't remember if I fired 5 or six rounds..yada-yada-yada."
When he starts to walks away the crook sez....." I-gots-to-know-man...I-gots-to-know"
YOU GOTZ TO KNOW MAN........
Same deal with the cut-outs. I run mine withe the cut-outs open MOST of the time.
That's what transports me back to 1966 when I was a teenager.........

I wish I could have attended.   Most likely won't make it this year either.   It all depends on when and if our son gets to come home on leave or not.  We try to take our vacation time around his schedule.   There are two good reasons for us to try and attend this year.

I'm not even sure I'll have room for cut outs.  The lower convertible seat pans and connecting plate eat up a lot of space.

No worries, when Sally hosts the 2026 Bash in Myrtle Beach he'll be walking distance close.

One step forward today and three steps back.  My day did not end on a good note.  But the carpet looks pretty darn good and the dome lights now work or are they call courtesy lights.  I did add some stick on sound deadener it certain spots for extra sound deadening.  The doors shut like a new car or better.  No tin can sounds at all.  Should be pleasant inside when driving with the loud mufflers.  lol

Anyone know where the screws go for the convertible carpet?   I bought a small carpet install kit and it has some large flat head screws in the little bag.  I've never installed screws for the carpet other than the door plates.  I've also never installed a convertible carpet.

The only screws on the carpet of my 68 are where the rear carpet overlaps the front under the front of the seats.
That part of the rear carpet has a served edge.
