1966 Ford Mustang Bypass hose

Hi,

How much am I supposed to cut the bypass hose?? I have everything on, the alternator bracket/ac idler pulley, etc...what is the easiest way to get this bypass hose on?? I guess I have fat fingers and the area is small.

Re: 1966 Ford Mustang Bypass hose

Hold it up to where it goes and you will be able to tell how much to remove.  The smart-alec answer is CUT OFF ALL OF THE PARTS THAT LOOK LIKE THEY GO TO A CAMARO.

Try a little dishwashing soap on the ID of the hose to get it to slide on easier.  Don't forget to put the clamps on the hose first.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Pay attention to remembering the clamps. Last year I struggled with that little hose for ages, got it on and then ended up doing a Homer Simpson and a forehead slap.

Re: 1966 Ford Mustang Bypass hose

I am just going to throw this out there since we already have one smart-alec responce to this post.
The clamps can be unscrewed all the way and opened up if you get that stupid hose on there and forget the clamp. You don't have to remove the hose again to get the clamp on.  In a pinch, two small clamps can be opened up and screwed together to make a larger clamp.

Seriously though, I think everyone hates that stupid bypass hose. It is better than the bypass hose on an FE engine though.  I have had to replace one of those on the side of the road with a super hot engine...burned the crap out of myself, but I made it to work and now I don't complain about the windsor hose at all.

Re: 1966 Ford Mustang Bypass hose

Thanks for the responses...I was expecting to get done more than I did today...That bypass hose took way too much time...but it's on and clamped down...I thought I was going to finish...tomorrow is rain in Houston so guess I'll finish up this weekend...:-(
