Here's a shout-out to all you guys like me driving down the road and not able to carry on a conversation with your passenger. After the Montrose trip, I decided that the varoom sound was too much and I wanted something quieter. The solution was a pair of Walker Cadillac mufflers like the ones on Mustang Steves car. Mine are now installed and I can carry on a conversation with my passenger while driving at highway speed. The only problem is that I can't tell when to shift because I can't hear the revs on the engine. I guess a tachometer will solve that problem,

How's it sound when you step on it? Are they called Walker Cadillac Mufflers?
Thanks Steve69

Gaba also has purchased a set and got a screaming deal on his, but has not installed them yet. After I bought mine, they started offering them in stainless steel. The number below is for the non-stainless version. I figure they will only last me 30 years instead of 60...
If you want to eliminate DRONE in your car, these are definitely the way to go. Anyone outside the car will hear a very strong powerful sound. These are not whisper quiet as the name implies! Inside the car, it is very quiet at speed, but if you hit the loud pedal, you will definitely know there is a V8 in the car.
They are longer, being 19", but WILL FIT if you find a competent installer. Note the clamp-on type extensions have been cut off both ends to get them to fit, so it definitley needs to be a welded installation. Somehow, the ones I put on Al's car fit ALOT BETTER than the ones on my car, pictured below. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Thanks for the info MS! I have 17" magaflow's on my 69 and I thought they were a tight fit. Might have to hone up my welding skills and go at it.

What Steve said. The sound inside the car is noticably quiet. When you stand outside in back of the car it has a throaty sound that tells you there is something under the hood;but, you're not quite sure what.

LOL My son recently picked up a Cadi CTS-V and installed a pair of elec cutouts because it was too quiet. I thought it was PERFECT in stock form.

Sal, Al said you could have the old Sonic Turbos he took off... But I get the garage point since they are now taking up space in my shop.

6sally6,
What does DC stand for?
Now for fun, I have to rely on the g-force throwing me back in the seat instead of noise.

I still think the late 60's early 70'sbig block ford mufflers are the best sound I would much rather have that sound than my flowmasters.

My magnaflow's are on the loud side too.

I hear ya Sal. I'ld rather hear the sound of my little 289 than anyone's voice.

I haven't put a radio in my car in seven years, i'd rather hear my engine, that's not to say that I won't, it's just not that important to me, even going to the car shows

The point is... We ALL like to hear the engine. Some just not as much. And those who decide to not hear so much now might actually be able to also hear the same twenty years from now!!!
Don't mind engine sounds. It is DRONE that is a deal killer.

And furtherless, some of us were pretty careful with our hearing over the hears and are still deaf as a post. And in my case, that means that what I do hear is only part of the tonal range I once had...which means I no longer get any pleasure out of music and.....the pipes on the car that everyone, including Jean, said sound great, sound like crappo to me. Reminds me of a Y-bother Ford with bloed out glass packs.
And now, even Jean had to admit that it is a bit much at speed. Anybody want a set of Maggot-blat muffins?

I hear ya Josh(no pun!)
Wonder if he would send me one and you one?
I have often thought a Magna-blow on ONE side(driverside) and Blowmaster 40 on the other side would sound sweet without the drone?!!?!
Who sez ya gotta have a matched pair of mugs anyway?!

Sal,
If you try that please post about it. I'd be interested to hear about the results... Even better, maybe I can hear the results first-hand at next year's bash!

Ok, I know this is not my post and this may be technically hijacking it...so I'm sorry ahead of time for that...so now that we are talking exhausts...I have blow master 40 with 2.5 inch exhaust headers etc. on my wife's slomaro...sounds great idling but not so much driving down the road. I'm about to buy exhaust for my 65 and do not want that sound. On the other hand I don't want bleeding ears either. And on the third hand I don't want Cadillac mufflers. Basically my carb is sticking through the hood, and have big meats on the back and want the car to sound mean. Any suggestions?

Even though the Walkers are quiet, they would still hear you pulling up to the car show. The difference is you can hear your passenger when you are trying to talk. Send me your email and I will send you a sound bite.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
