3g alternator

Is anyone running a 3G 130 amp alternator with a single V groove belt.  If so any issues with belt squealing  or anything else
Thanks

Re: 3g alternator

Hi , yes i got it and i have some squeal here and there , maybe on start and hard kick down,
IF  you like me are using 3/8 belt  i think is only a question of tighten . Or maybe could be out of line .... the 130 amps  are a lot of force when alternator starts to do the job and i have heard that big alt. should wear double v groove pulleys just for that.
if  your electric need  are stock the alt. will work easy adverse if you constant drag power for something
Whats happen ?

Re: 3g alternator

On the rare occasion I get a small squeal at start up when the weather is cold.
A new premium belt and max tightness should reduce the noise.

Re: 3g alternator

I had it with only the 95 amp version.  I tightened that belt as tight as I reasonably could and its 99.5% gone.  Every once in a blue moon it'll pop up again and momentarily make me mad, but it doesn't happen often enough to do anything about.  I'm planning a Fox front drive setup swap anyway, so I'm sure the future serpentine belt will fully solve it.

Re: 3g alternator

Maybe try the 4” diameter 289 Hipo alternator pulley. It has more surface area of engagement with the belt.
On a 3G unit, you may have to file the front of the alternator slightly for clearance.

Re: 3g alternator

I have it all the time on start up. Maybe a larger pully with more area would as MS said would help. Where do I get one?

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: 3g alternator

CJPony or other vendors should have the 289 Hipo or Boss 302 pulley. Be sure to get the steel version. The aluminum version does not last very long. The V groove quickly becomes widened out until the belt no longer engages.
