(Edited - I changed the title of the thread)
It seems like the “What did you do to your (insert car name here) today?” threads do well on other forms and get people to socialize a bit...
So what did you do to your car today? Look at it? Kick it? Buy parts for it? Hide parts for it from the spouse? Work on it?

So, what did you do with your car today.........???

Good idea, Bent. I generally do any "improvements" over the winter since cruising days are pretty spotty. Got a long list ready to report soon as you start it.

I rolled mine back about a foot so that the tires would not "flat spot"

Now that the car runs & stops once again I have been chasing small issues. Saturday's project was to put the car in the air & the drop the pan on the FMX. Old pan gasket was one of those thin rubberized felt style ones, and it leaked. I got a filter / gasket kit from WIX and the gasket was thin rubber. Ended up cutting my own out of some cork to get what I wanted. No drips yet! Also put the fender liners on and cleaned it up a bit to go to the muffler shop.

Cussed it!!!!!!!!!!
Does that count?!

Last week I finished up the hood lock release and then yesterday I finally cut all the engine bay hoses for the oil cooler, power steering and fuel to length:
Today I painted the inside of the front bumper:
Polished the intake pipe:
As I had my polishing equipment out I also polished the 90° piece of steel tubing I used as piece of the upper radiator connection:

Well, this is for stuff I did today butt (TS&T) what I did "today" is went to the range and shot a little informal match. What I did the last three or four weeks to the Heap is:
Complete front end rebuild except for the springs/shocks with all Moog stuff. While I was at it I installed my new UCA one-piece shim wedges and aligned it to Zero to 1/4 degree neg camber; 3.75 pos caster; 1/8 toe in.
Then I installed a Fox V8 brake booster in place of the Fox 4 cyl unit I had in there. Also replaced the stop light switch while i was at it. The new booster required that I also make new MC to Prop valve brake lines and modify the left tower support to allow room to get the cap off of the MC.
Then I disassembled most of the right side of the car so I could make a 1/16" adjustment to the right quarter window so that the door window would not hang upon opening the door.
Yesterday I drained the fuel tank, removed the sender and made an adjustment to raise the fuel pick up a bit. It's had a couple of minor stumbles and I'm thinking it might have picked up a drop of water with the pick-up sock flat on the bottom of the tank.

Bob I got tired just from reading your list. Good going,

Thanks Jim. Work on it all winter so I can drive it a couple of miles in the summer.
Oh also, not to change the subject but Barry (5.0Vert) is going to take delivery of your steering wheel at the Bash.

No kidding Jim, and BB has ten years on me.
Because the 13" Cobra front brakes weren't big enough, I purchased some 14.2"rotors and 4 piston 2014 Mustang GT Brembo rotors to really fill up the 18" wheels. Making the brackets was half the fun.

Haven't even look at them for months.

I opened box of parts that I ordered for it and took them to the garage and put them in with the other parts that I plan on putting on it. While I was out there I did pet it.

Because I wasn’t smart enough to modify my new rad support to fit the larger radiator before it was installed in the car and painted and because I really don’t want to cut up or drill new holes into the new freshly painted metal, l spent yesterday slightly modifying the largest electric fan (sorry, MS!) I could find to fit on the std 65-66 size ACP Maxcore 2 row 1.25”’ tube radiator and fabbing up some simple brackets to mount the fan to the radiator.

That was the thinnest 17” rad I could find and once installed left about 3/4” between the fan and water pump pulley bolts.

DROVE it out of the garage and into a trailer.
Going to get some exhaust on put on it. Should please the neighbors.
Now inside this huge borrowed enclosed trailer. Had to move all of the furniture out of said borrowed trailer first…
Off to the muffler shop we go!

I installed the new dash pad and gauges, also put the headliner in. Still have to tighten and glue it. It’s progress!

Did a few things-
-Tried 4 different serpentine belts until I got the one that fit properly. I'm using a partial March kit but a KRC ps pump with serp pulley and 3G alternator.
-Installed my Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump. Tried flaring 3/8" stainless fuel line from pump to carb using Mastercool flaring tool with no luck. I have a 5/16" ss line but the fittings on the Pump are 3/8" npt female thread and I can't find a fitting that will go from 3/8" npt to the inverted flare size for 5/16" . I would just assume have a 3/8" line since rest of the system is 3/8". I may tried cutting the 3/8" with a 32 tooth hacksaw blade. I thinking my tubing cutter maybe hardening the tube. Or I might order a braided line to run up to dual line carb. Wasted a couple hours on this what should have took 10 minutes.

I installed a 97 Escort E brake handle which necessitated removing seats and carpet. While I had the carpet out I replaced the after market shifter with a Hurst so that I could use a 4 speed "looking" lever. I also removed my v6 mc and reshimmed it to the 4 cyl booster to raise the pedal a little bit. Installed a new fuel tank and trunk mat. Next project is to find a suitable fuse panel at the pick n pull to replace the cheap one from Auto Zone. And a totally non Ford related project I got my '95 Harley running after sitting broken in my garage for 10 years

Try annealing the stainless tube.

Today I made a woman cry but that's another story...
Been working on making steel sleeves for the holes in this homemade aluminum bracket that's supposed to attach my power steering pump to the engine. Also prepped it for welding that triangular reinforcement piece of it tomorrow.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
