FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Breaking Tires Older than 10 years old » 8/18/2018 6:28 PM |
Car has been sitting in a garage since 1981, I'm trying to get the car running again. I was going to remove wheels and tires and take down for new tires when the car is road worthy.
Thanks for the warning on fix a flat.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Breaking Tires Older than 10 years old » 8/18/2018 12:21 PM |
One of the tires on my 69 Mustang has a slow leak, so I took the tire and wheel to Big O to get fixed. The guy said that it was illegal for him to fix the tire because the tire was over 10 years old. He told me not to bother talking it to Goodyear, PepBoys or any other tire retailer because they can't legally fix it either. Anybody ever heard of this? I live in Colorado.
I purchased a can of Fix-a-Flat, but I haven't put in yet because I'm worried that the sealant will settle in the tire from sitting and make the tire wobble when driving. Is this there any validity to this?
Thanks.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 1969 Mustang 351W Rear Main Seal » 6/21/2018 10:38 AM |
Thanks for all your input on the rear main seal problem. I've heard that this 2 piece seal was a rope seal while others tell me its a neoprene seal, which is it?
Just to be clear, I used regular dino 10W30 oil on the oil change. Before I changed out the old Texaco Havoline, the rear main was not leaking nearly as bad.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 1969 Mustang 351W Rear Main Seal » 6/19/2018 10:52 AM |
Hi,
I just changed the oil using the recommended 10W30 non synthetic with zinc additive on my 69 Mach I with 351W 4V, now I have a bad rear main oil seal leak. Car was not driven for several years, the old oil was Texaco Havoline 10W30 last changed in the 1980's. Just wondering if I could go to a straight 40W oil and be okay The car has 100K miles, it's not driven in winter.
Also, was the original 2 piece oil seal rope or neoprene? Anybody have any luck with mechanic in a can products, if so what did you use? Thanks.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Ethanol Gas Sitting in Carb For Long Periods » 5/31/2018 1:33 PM |
I just had to rebuild my Holley 4 barrel due to Ethanol going bad / evaporating in the bowls in my 69 Mach I with 351W. This is a dumb question....but if you start the car every week or so will the gas be refreshed in both bowls of the 4 barrel or just the front bowl? If not, if you cut off the gas to the carb and let it run dry, will both bowls be evacuated? Anyone in the Denver, CO know where to get gas w/o the ethanol?

Hi, I'm looking for a good Denver shop to remove heads on my 69 Mach I 351W to install hardened seats and perform a 3 angle valve job. I would pull the heads myself, but it's not feasible at my location, any suggestions? Thanks
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Plastic Hose Fell into Piston Chamber » 8/02/2016 7:10 PM |
Thanks for the great info, I will try some of your suggestions, if I fail to get the tube out I'll start the engine and cross my fingers.

FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Plastic Hose Fell into Piston Chamber » 8/01/2016 6:22 PM |
Hi Guys,
I was attempting to start a 69 Mach I with 351 4V after years of remaining idle. I was spraying WD40 into the cylinder heads using a plastic hose, however the hose fell off and dropped into the cylinder head. What are my options... remove the head or try starting the car?
Thanks,
Richard
