FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » 65 power brake - pedal pin relocation mod vs bolt-in pedal support kit » 6/08/2023 3:29 AM |
Yes, I done exactly that re the hand brake, the pistons appear to be ratcheted out to the point where the hand brake is almost instantaneous when applied.
On closer inspection last night there does appear to be a 1"+ of play in the pedal before i suspect it moves anything of use - is there a way to remove that slack so the instance i touch the pedal it moves the push rod? this has to help reduce the pedal travel?

Many thanks all
An adjustable push rod is an interesting idea, looking at the pedal travel it does look like some of the initial travel is due to slack/worn plastic bushes in the pedal to rod connection.
Agreed the summit kit is not great - but i do have the hand brake connected and the hand brake levers on the callipers adjusted correctly with only a very small amount of movement in them before the hand brake engages.
I'll try and rectify the pedal slack with new plastic bushes and an adjustable rod - if that doesn't get me completely sorted it sounds like a MS brake pedal system might get me to the final desired result.

Hi Mustang Steve - I've read through this thread and just wanted to double check a few things before placing an order as i live in the UK so postage and import will be a costly mistake if i get it wrong. I have a 65 fastback 289 auto - it came from the factory (i think) with drums all round, power assisted servo and a single pot MC. I've junked all that as it was all beyond repair -
I've fitted a scott drake front disc kit with servo and dual MC and 4 pot calipers, a rightstuff proportioning valve, a summit rear disc kit. Ive bled everything, adjusted everything, triple checked everything - the brake pedal has way too much travel, its like 2"- 3" off the floor before anything happens.
Am i correct in thinking your pin location kit or pedal and brace kit (PB2 and PB5) will alter the ratio of the pedal and correct the problem? mercedes c class 0 60 mph
Any help much appriciated.

wrx stats
My 65 A code fastback in the UK - been in a garage for the past 12 years - I struck a deal and got it running - a year and a half hard work, rebuild 289, all new suspension and brakes - wanted that road race SCCA look.
