Sound Deadening On floors

Just curious how many of you have some type of sound deadening on the floor boards?

I have the rear seat out and side panels removed to fix both of my quarter windows that don't want to work smoothly. I thought this may be a good time to pull the front seats and carpet to replace the worn out shifter I'm not happy with, and maybe add some sound deadening while I'm at it.

Fatmat seems to be the best bang for the buck, Good reviews and less expensive than dynomat.

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I used "Be Quiet".  Specs indicate it's equal to Dyno Max but is considerably less $$$.  Made in Canukastan.  Seems to work pretty well.

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

What are the chances that sound deadener traps and holds moisture?

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I used NVX sound deadener from SonicElectonix. They're out of Knoxville KY. You can get it in black or silver and I bought a package that covers 40 as ft on sale for $99 with a free roller. It's advertised as 91 mil thick. Went in nicely, really sticks well, no oder. Google NVX sound deadening. They may also have free shipping.

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I did rhino guard first, then fatmat. I was looking for a couple of different layers to break up noise and vibration

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

Sound deadening , just lowers panel vibration,, 20% coverage only needed

sound blocking requires Mass loaded vinyl (blocks low freq)

High Density foam is glued to under side of vinyl

I have parts list for the do it yourself,, save 75%

referance  https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

and then topped off with ACC Mass loaded carpet

https://www.accmats.com/articles/everything-about-mass-backing/

and  if you have a bit of engineer in ya    this is great info for a basic understanding of sound waves

I have a lot of time so I decided to do this research

Good question, I hope I do not have moisture issues in the cab? If so I do not think it would look like it does after 20 years

I can say that when I close the doors it sounds so much more solid. I also see Don's post below, good to know for next time!

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I sprayed in Lizard skin for sound and heat. Not to easy to do on a car with any type of interior. I also bought all the jute cuts offered by Johns Mustang for the floors then bought extra from the upholstery shop that did my seats and headliner to make sure all surfaces were covered with at least one layer. some area have 2.

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

Kardad, while you have the rear seat out it might be a good idea to put in a steel panel behind the seat and put deadner on that to isolate noise from the back of the car. It also helps stiffen the body if welded in

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I was on a budget and wantted to cool the car down from the heat on the floor, so I went to Amazon. I used KilMat 80 from Amazon throughout my coupe for sound and the went over the top with Car insulation sound deadener and heat mat from Amazon. I am very pleased at how quite the car is and the floors dont get hot in the summer anymore. Here is a couple pics of the install. i also added a wood panel between the rear seat and the trunck and covered as well. cv

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I catch a lotta grief and eye-rolls from  'Sally-with-a-skirt" for this very same thing.
"WHY....do you get 2.5" exhaust system....headers...Blowmaster 40s.......big 'honk'in engine....snotty camshaft..and then want to "quieten-it-down?!" DUH!!
Its-what-we-do!!
Be sure to cover the openings on the doors with sound dampner (instead of the plastic water shield!) ALL the openings. I even put an aditional layer on the back side of the door panels.
Make a huge difference. Door closes like a Lincoln too!  THUNK!

Re: Sound Deadening On floors

I used to find the drone and drumminess inside the cabin annoying. Having a conversation was difficult driving down the freeway too.
I put in some dynamat along the floors (after really coating the floors with decent rust proofing paint) and under the rear seat I put in that high density/heavy foam-vinyl, as well as the dynamat.
I stuffed some of that foam vinyl inside the rear seat.
One of the absolute best things I did was install mdf paneling behind the seat and on the parcel tray. Huge difference...
I am of the opinion that in these old cars, a significant amount of noise comes through the trunk. I've managed to dramatically reduce that noise.
