Re: thinking of 6sally6

I'd like to see how they lift that and move it without possibly putting a bend in it. That is a lot of metal to move.

Re: thinking of 6sally6

It’s amazing what photoshop can do. Look at Pinterest to see stuff like this.
If’n it was real how long do think those dinky drive studs would  deal with the kind of imaginary torque a crank that size would produce.
Sorry to burst the bubble boys!

Re: thinking of 6sally6

These were some engine blocks I found in Germany. Not quite the size of the above Crank, but still pretty impressive.

Re: thinking of 6sally6

Wonder what fuel line size is required for that thing?

Yeah, besides the fuel line, i'd also be concerned about the cost of ARP studs and girdles. ;o

Re: thinking of 6sally6

Huge ocean going vessels do have engines that large.  I've seen them before.  You can actually get inside the cylinders  Its the only way to effectively power ships that large carrying that much cargo.  They turn very low RPM and make tremendous torque.  The drive studs appear to be about the diameter of a man's leg, and it also looks like most of them are missing.  I count 24 holes for them total.

Fuel wise, I'm betting that when those injectors are on full its like a firehose inside the cylinders.  At idle though its like a trickle.  They definitely use an absurd amount of fuel.  In a perfect world these things would be nuclear powered like our Navy ships, but you can't risk the tech falling into the wrong hands.

The big question is: what's the turbo that goes on it look like?
