MS cable conversion install 1966 mustang

Tonight I started the process of installing the MS T5 cable conversion on my 66 coupe.  I must say it appears to be much easier when the cowl is removed.  I purposely haven’t welded the cowl in place for two reasons.  One was sand blasting and and the second is the cable conversion.    Here’s a few pictures of what I had time to do tonight.

Good work!   It will be easy to dent the cowl for clearance before installing it.  Just make sure you have clearance above the quadrant.

Paint the underside of the cowl white. If you ever have to lay on your back and work under the dash, it'll be much brighter and easier to see what you're doing.

Having the cowl off is a plus.  Painting the underside white isn’t a bad idea.

I believe we can thank brother Glen Buzek (1965 5.0) for that worthy suggestion many years ago.

Re: MS cable conversion install 1966 mustang

Finished installing the cable conversion tonight.  I’m glad my cowl is apart because I couldn’t imagine trying to deny the lower cowl from under the dash. Plus having the dash out I took a long flexible scale/ruler and transferred my cable center line to the top of the firewall.   Then clamp the bracket in place and used transfer punches to transfer the hole locations.

I’m thinking about putting a chamfer in the grass piece and putting an o-ring on the cable. It will provide a better or more snug fit and seal it as well.
