Back in the middle of November you told me about somting I was unfamiliar with, a DRO and now because of you opening my eyes I have two.
Got the DRO installed on my mill build. It went well but being that my mill does not have a slide column and all vertical travel is done with the quill, it made the vertical scale install challenging to say the least, but I was able to get it with a two bracket system.
The DRO mounts to the bracket I fabbed up to hang the motor off the end.
Forward and back scale
Longitudinal scale
This is the result of a full days work. The collar started as a 5 X 5 piece of 3/8" plate. The biggest drill I had was 1" so I started with that and then chucked it up in the lathe to open it up to 3". I then rough cut the outside and spent some time grinding to profile it. The 1/4" bolt locks it tight to the spindle housing.
The vertical scale mounts to the side of the mill head with a piece of angle iron.

If I ever get the Heap out of the shop I'll be setting up the machines I inherited from Ted. The mill head has a DRO but the table is all analog. Hmmmm, may have to step up. That is very cool, Day and as usual, good work.

Thanks!!
Both the DRO on my lathe and mill came from the same supplier on eBay. For what it is it was reasonably priced. The features are AMAZING!!! The one on my lathe has already made me a better machinist.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
