I recall at Lions DS watching a Mini eat up a hot 409 Bowtie over the 1/4 mile.  Lots of surprised folks that evening.

Re: If your insecure about having a little mini ... !!!!

Its all about weight to HP and traction.  The best cars have both attributes in spades.  My uncle had an L88 Vette when I was a kid.  Weight to HP was probably off the chart.  The car weighed nothing and had 600-650HP.  It remains the scariest car I've ever been in.  BUT, not a terror to a car with less power and significantly better traction.  On a short, twisty track my WRX would probably eat if for breakfast.  There was a great episode of Top Gear where they ran a Lamborghini against an Evo.  Two professional drivers, and eventually the Lambo driver spun the car trying to keep up with the Evo; a car that cost less than 1/10th the price of the Lambo and had significantly less power.  Plus, as Americans we always love the underdog

Re: If your insecure about having a little mini ... !!!!

I once owned a Mini.  Loved it.  It was a blast to drive.  So much that I wrecked it in Texas.  Going too fast and hit a curb.  Sprung the unibody, but continued to drive it even with a howling wheel bearing.  I tried to get back to LA for my wedding, but had to scrap it in Flagstaff and rent a car for rest of the trip.  I did not want to brave the desert and chance that the bearing would seize in the middle of nowhere.

I had hot rodded it a bit by replacing the 850cc engine with an 1100cc engine with dual carbs, headers and Jaguar inner valve springs that got me over 6k rpm.  It was faster than any Porsche of that time - 1964.  It might have beaten an A-code Mustang too.  It only weighed 1200 lb and cornered like it was on rails.

The video really took me back in time.

Re: If your insecure about having a little mini ... !!!!

I had a few of them. The last one I had I totally rebuilt converting it to Cooper specs except for the brakes. It had a 1300 in it. LOL  I painted it with Alumnigrip red with a white top.

Here's a 1/4 mile Mini, 10.1 at 147 mph.

Some neat ideas Barry. Cool to see some modern engines in old classics.

No way I will take my 1979 Mini above 65 MPH. That little engine would fall out the bottom.

Re: If your insecure about having a little mini ... !!!!

NZ really likes their hot rods.  Spent a month there a few years ago.  Every day on the highway there would be a slew of hot rods on the road.  All makes and models.  Car museums abound.  In Nelson there is a museum that has a mini that did about 180mph at Bonneville!  It had a custom engine of something like 1200cc's.  Located in the stock location in front.  Stock wheel base.  That driver had more balls than I.

That green Morry pick-up definately causes the 'trousers-to-tighten'!  WOW is NOT strong enough!
The movie "The Worlds Fastest Indian" certainly describes the NZ mindset........
(please don't tell me you've never seen the movie?!)

Back in the day, NZ was a great place to be a teenage boy. If you could imagine it, someone would tell you how to gett'er done.
