Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

Is he using the proper booster.   I've seen those before.  The bell crank has a large upward offset.  If I remember right, that would be a tricky machine to put aftermarket brake booster on.  With a large shock tower, and such.    Either way, wiper motor is under the dash.   What's interfering?

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

The wiper motor on a 64 Fairlane is in the engine bay, and the wiper motor faces the master cylinder.
That's all I got, maybe there was a unique Ford booster made to fit with the wioer motor?

Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

I happen to drive a '63 Fairlane daily and had that problem too. Almost every mod on a 62-65 Fairlaine is a problem by its own.

My car has the Metro Geo/Suzuki swift brake booster & MC installed and even with them (small) the Wiper motor needed to be clocked away.  Can't recall the mod out of my head but wasn't that hard.

Can take pics if needed.

Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

Don't know which booster he's trying to use, Billy but the Fox V8 booster has  a 7" diameter as opposed to the four cyl booster that MS normally sells which has a 9" diameter.

Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

I stand corrected, I went and looked at pictures of a 64 Fair lane firewall, and I see the wiper motor and such.  Really explains the weird shape of the factory bell crank, and how much it raises the booster.

Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

Here are some pics of my setup. The wiper system is the Ford Truck intermittent type with a special switch, a controll box and a later wiper motor. The wiper motor is smaller but had to be clocked anyway.

Hope that helps,

Mustsed

Wow! Another member with an export brace on a Fairlane. I thought they were kinda rare in the States.
This is a fellow members, (Ponch0v), car.

Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

When I first got the car, i tried to decipher the VIN and noticed that there is no such VIN shown in the decoders. Later i found out that my Fairlane was an export model. As far as i could make out, the exports differ in this ways;

- Export brace stamped (likee Mustang one's)
- Bigger front swaybar
- 2 small reflectors beside the taillights (Germany, France and Turkey at least).
- Km/h speedometer
- 5 pax seatbelts (Germany, France and Turkey. Belgium and Netherlands had only front).
- Low comp. 170, 221 or 260 engines.

İf anybody knows more please share. The above list is personal research and might be wrong in some points.

Love that car but it has the worst front geaometry ever designed by ford!!!

Re: 1964 Fairlane question on wiper motor

They were also built in Oz, and came with an export brace and MPH speedo.
Nice cars.
