Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

Hi
Whats size are the 2010-2015 brake boosters ? Are the double diaphragm ?  Maybe I could fit one in my 73 ? instead of the single 9 or11 inch one.

Regards Rob

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

Pretty sure all the newer Mustangs use hydroboost not vacuum.

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

Not sure if it available to you in Sweden, but try the RockAuto website.  One can check parts for different years and see if the same description/part numbers go from year to year.

65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

So it seems they do indeed use vacuum again.  Personally I'd rather have hydroboost as the unit takes up less space and isn't subject to the vacuum issues a high performance engine can have.

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

I was working on trying to fit a 2015 booster and master cylinder into my 67 and it just was a no go; unless I wanted to delete the export brace.  If you're ok with forgoing the export brace then it'll fit.  But, then you'll have to address the issue of the fact that the booster needs a wedge between the firewall and booster so the booster won't sit at a steep angle.  Then you've got to drill the new bolt pattern into the existing stock pedal support.  It can be done, but there's a lot of buts . . .

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

I think It might be possible to fit in my 73.Should be sam size roundwise but narrower against the cylinder head

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

The boosters are huge with a really short input shaft that connects differently than earlier types. The master cylinder fits inside the booster so it appears really short but is a good design.

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

Does it fit/work on a 70 Mustang?

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

I looked at them as a possibility but did not work with my “Do not modify parts you might ever have to replace” rule.  Not saying it couldn’t be done, but a 70 Bendix booster is 7.25” diameter and the 2015+ is at least 9”. The input shaft difference was the deal killer for me.

Plus the booster bolts on with three bolts, which is doable, but there are great boosters that bolt right up, like the 67-70 original boosters.

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters

I looked at using a 2015 Mustang booster/mc in my 67 Mustang and the reservoir cap had interference with the export brace.  It doesn't look like you might have that problem with your export brace option, but then again, you might.

Re: Modern mustang 2015 brake boosters
