I am trying to decide whether or not to pay the extra 100 bucks to get the Nodular 8 inch case is it probaly not needed or should I just stick with the standard 67 and up 8 inch case reconditioned. Is it needed or just nice to have?
Going with 3.55.1 gear and Eaton Trutrac.

Online!
I think the nodular case is a nice to have for your application.

I have a regular case with 3.25 ratio behind a 331 ci.
I’d go to an 8.8 as an upgrade.

I considered an 8.8 ...but I have already installed MustangSteve brake brackets from 2006 GT all new brake lines everything is all painted up really nice along with new leaf springs and just hate to disturb all that. If I had not already had all that done I would be putting a 8.8 or a 9 inch under it.

Just wondering if its worth 100 bucks for what I am using it for.

so it is not really needed unless you got some major Horse Power going to it.....I will be under 300 im sure maybe 250 would be my engine not really sure. Should be a bit more peppy than the 289 2 bbl and 4 speed with 3.00.1 gear

Spend the cash. It's better to live rich, than die rich.

May not be needed but it’s always nice to know you have it. Plus if you ever do upgrade your engine power you would have it and no second guess the stock case.

I would stay with the standard until you up the power because you will need a 9 inch or 8.8 then for sure. Ford even thought so as they put the 9 inch in them back when.

I agree with those that say go for the extra money.
IMO, it is better to know that you ‘won’t’ have any issues, than to ‘hope’ you won’t have any issues.

My thoughts on that is they didn't really know why the 8" were breaking, but then, they didn't know why the 9" would break either. They kept looking at case material and the pinion support and the size of the ring gear. The pinion bearings are too close together. What's between those bearings? Well, basically its a spring under load. How long do you think the rear lasts when pinion depth become variable while you are trying to launch? Yep, not long. Its funny because DANA figured it out, but Ford and GM never did. Get rid of the $%^&ing crush sleeve and use a solid spacer! You do that you'll be surprised what that "weak" rear will live through.
