Reproduction 94-04 COBRA calipers

Several places on ebay are now selling a pair of reproduction 94-04 Cobra calipers (less the lettering) including the brackets, for $129 shipped.

I bought some of the red powdercoated rear ones from PowerStop in July. They had the numbers cast into them, but not the Ford logo.

Re: Reproduction 94-04 COBRA calipers

Way back, when I first designed the Cobra front caliper brackets, I bought an entire pallet of brand new 2004 Cobra calipers that came from the Ford assembly line leftovers. I paid $20.00 per pair for them.

That was a nice score.

I paid at least the same price if not a little more for used front cobra calipers.  It’s been so long since I bought them I can’t recall the exact price.  It is nice to see there’s other options now and should bring down the price of used setups.

Re: Reproduction 94-04 COBRA calipers

On Rock Auto Raybestos has new fronts for $78/each.  I can't find where these eBay ones are made, but I'll assume its China because with the exception of Brembo, EBC, and DBA I don't think any brake parts are made anywhere else.  The Raybestos ones are almost certainly made in China too, but having used a lot of Raybestos stuff over the years I feel confident that they have adequate quality control.  I can't say about this place, but in fairness they do have near 99% positive feedback.  Ugh, I'd just rather buy American made parts.

Re: Reproduction 94-04 COBRA calipers

None of the Cobra calipers were ever made in USA.

I also have concerns of Chinese parts. Only a long-term usage test could confirm how they would hold up. My concern would be the rubber seals on the pistons

If I was going to put larger wheels on my 65, I would try a set of those. But, the car has a nice set of 15x7 styled steel wheels, so my brakes have to fit those. I am considering the Cobra rears, though, as they will fit in a 15x7.

Re: Reproduction 94-04 COBRA calipers

Its about as good a deal going as one is going to find.   I seem to remember the cores alone on the rears were quite high.

I wanna go dig out the receipt if its still readable.   I remember for sure I got them at A zone.

This fixes one one drawback to doing the conversion.  Lack of, or having to pay for the cores.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Be that as it may, they were still made with Ford overseeing the production and to their specifications.  As I don't recall a rash of bad ones I'd say they did a fine job.  Not to say these aren't up to those standards either.  I'd just feel more confident if we had a long term report as you noted.

On the rear only the brackets differ from GT calipers, and they use a Cobra specific pad, which is thinner to account for the vented rear rotor on the Cobra vs. the solid rotor on the GT.  Sometimes you can find just the brackets on eBay to where buying those and GT calipers is cheaper than buying Cobra calipers with the brackets.

Re: Reproduction 94-04 COBRA calipers

The price of cores and well abused/used Cobra calipers influenced my decision to go with the later model calipers.

Even the non “Cobra” embossed calipers were like gold prices…just under the Lightning intake manifolds of course.

I did notice that this company also had the KH style calipers too.
