My Dart aluminum big bore 427 Windsor (4.0” stroke, 4.125” bore) just turned 30,000 miles in my 66 fastback.
Installed it in 2010, right before Jerry’s Tennessee bash.

I somehow missed the price of the Prestige motor in the article.

That’s my dream is to build an all aluminum 351W.

Like I once told someone . . . . . the aluminum block price is only pennies a mile more than the iron one!😋

After this build and the next build. Maybe I’ll build another new engine for my 66 and sell the one that’s in it.

How about $8269 for the bare block?

Uh ya, no.

Might as well go for the FE (real-deal) ...!
6sal6 (its great to spend other guyz $$$!)

Dove and Pond both make aluminum FE blocks. Might actually be cheaper than that 315 block from Shelby. How much of Carrol's ashes are cast into that thing? Jesus!

Is FE cubes for almost FE prices a fair statement??
$8269 looks like a good round number for Shelby to tag on the 351 and the FE blocks. Who woulda thunk they would be the same!!
I would have to opt out of those and stick with cast iron.
What motors has Ford mass produced that are all aluminum? That should be a much more cost effective path. Had a buddy that got an all aluminum 5.3 for his Vette. He turned it into a 5.7 and makes close the the same HP and torque of my FE at 1/3 the cost!!
Is there a problem with the math in here somewhere??

Sadly, bowtie stuck with a pushord engine which is cheap and makes gobs of power. Ford's response was to stick to an undersized OHC modular engine. You want torque? Better get yourself a blower. The newer generation (Coyote) is very complicated and expensive, or they have the Ecoboost V6 that makes a lot of power with twin turbos, but again, expensive and complicated. You can throw a carb on an LS by comparison. Ford missed the boat IMO, but then they sell more vehicles so they don't really care.

TKO - I agree, the LT & LS engiens are used in many GM vehicles and therefore are available in many junk yards. The Coyote engine is a good engine, however it is rare to find in a junk yard, and is a very wide engine making it difficult to fit into many cars ... like the early Mustangs w/o also removing the shock towers.

I agree the cost is prohibitive, but I’m always looking and maybe one day I’ll stumble upon a deal to good to pass up.

Pond's FE blocks are about $6k. I guess Carrol's name is worth $2k.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
