Buyer Beware?

OK, maybe I'm old and getting "testy" but I just had a purchase with CJ Pony that as they say here in Texas "got my dander up". I went online and ordered a minor item - less than $10 - because I needed it and found it on CJ's website. I used to get a lot of stuff from there but not so much in recent years. The item was shipped and the I got an email from something called "Extend" thanking me for signing up for their service. Had no idea what this was so I emailed CJ - can never get anyone on the phone so I emailed - asking what this was about. I did get a response advising me that Extend is their insurance which is an "optional add-on" offered at the time of purchase and I needed to unselect the option if I didn't want it. Then I was told - No worries! The cost was only 98 cents! Dammit, it was my 98 cents. Anyway, maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but in my view it is a somewhat shady business practice to require an "opt out" for insurance on purchases. Even the airlines don't do that.
As I stated earlier, I used to buy from CJ years ago but this will be the last time for me.  Rick

Re: Buyer Beware?

Even if you’re old and testy, I would be irked as well.

Thanks for warning.

I bet CJ Pony gets a kickback of some sort.

Re: Buyer Beware?

Unfortunately this kind of thing is more the rule than the exception anymore.  Almost always there is a box already checked for email notifications from any online purchase.  Even if you don't check it or uncheck it you often end up added to the list anyway.  I must unsubscribe to a dozen of those emails a year.

Anymore, for Mustang parts I tend to stick with NPD, or Johns.

Re: Buyer Beware?

It would have bothered me as well but been thankful it was only a small amount.  I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that now on any site I order from.

Re: Buyer Beware?

No matter how old one may be, I think your frustration is valid.

Re: Buyer Beware?

Rick, to me that's a form of steeling. I don't care if someone steels 98 cents or $98 off of me, I'm going to be PO just the same. You have a right to feel the way you do.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.
