Auto cool guy question

I got this extra part with my ACG order and when looking on his page, from my phone, I can not find out how to hook this up.  I think it's to suppress noise?

Re: Auto cool guy question

It is a ‘capacitor’; rated at 1500uf (micro-farads), and is likely for noise suppression.  Suggest contacting AGC to verify its purpose and where it should be connected.

Re: Auto cool guy question

It's an electrolytic capacitor and it should be connected between +12V and ground.  The "+" terminal on the capacitor MUST be connected to the +12V.  If it's connected backwards, it can explode.

Well that's a bit of important information.    I got wiring instructions for the controller but nothing for this piece.  My phone doesn't always show everything on his site.   I'll look on my laptop later and see if I can find any information.    Maybe it's in one of his videos.

Re: Auto cool guy question

Looking at the posts on this capacitor and I can't see any markings that would indicate positive or negative.    One post looks to have a knurled spot where the other post does not.  My guess is the knurled post will be positive.  I'll call ACG later today and see what he says.

Looking up capacitors it says the longer post is the positive post.  ACG has soldered terminals to the posts.  Looking at capacitors online it looks like the non knurled post is the longer post. Looking at how the connectors are soldered on the capacitor, the non knurled looks to have the inner part of the connector filled more than the other.

The white stripe on the side of the case normally designates the negative (ground) terminal.  That's aligned with/points to the respective terminal.

That fits with what I was looking at online.

Re: Auto cool guy question

Called ACG and he said the gray strip on the side is in fact the negative post.   Good thing I did call because the ground from the capacitor goes to the stud the fan grounds go to on the controller.  The positive post is where the positive battery wire goes and then power from there to the controller.

Close to putting the radiator in for good.  Not the best day to have my back start giving out.  I may have to call it a night after I get back home from getting my TB test read.   Ugh

Re: Auto cool guy question

It filters out the hum that some fans produce. I had one that did hum but its hard to hear. I dont have the cap on mine with the Black magic fan.

Slammed Big Blue, ran over the varmints that messed with the Stang. Now all is good in the NW
