Re: Hey yall!!

Dust mostly.  Saturday I might actually get some time to work on something.  Well, provided I resurrect the tractor from its winter slumber and get the chainsaw back together.  No baseball practices for the boys though, and the wife is out of town.

Re: Hey yall!!

Wired up the neutral start switch from the T5 transmission, wired in the MeterMatch for the fuel gauge (haven't calibrated it yet) and replacing the radio (due to failure).

Re: Hey yall!!

I had sent my Carb to Steve for some repairs and to look it over and he found a few things wrong with it and repaired them and got it looking good. I been working on my 85 GT valve covers and the spacers ....I got the covers painted and the fins polished. I have the spacers JB welded on just need to get it all back on the engine.

Re: Hey yall!!

Dust, a bumper crop of dust.  Hatched 14 chickens this year and they lived in the garage till they were 5 weeks old.  Made an incredible amount of dust.

Re: Hey yall!!

I finally finished the TCP Rack n pinion install yesterday.  Only took me a month. That included the install of the Street/Track adjustable lower control arm inner pivots. Those allowed me to get a perfect zero degrees camber adjustment.  That camber change was needed since the 3,600 mile CA bash trip resulted in almost being able to see the air in the inner edges of my two front tires. So, two new tires, new lower ball joints and a new rack were all installed.
And, during the process, the car was stuck up on top of the lift for a week waiting to get a rebuilt cylinder installed on my four post lift.
Next:  set the engine/tranny at three degrees down and the rear end yoke at three degrees up. They are at two right now. I could not do this before because the rack n pinion was right against the oil pan keeping me from tilting the engine downward. The new rack has big block mounts and sits 5/8” lower.  Still chasing the high speed vibration that comes on around 78 mph.

And, all the smoke escaped from my radio, so I am in the market for a new one, too.

Re: Hey yall!!

Yesterday I replaced the downstream O2 sensor on my '07 F250, which fought me every step of the way.  I had a code 2272 that wouldn't go away after running some Sea Foam through it (I tried the $20 fix before the $40 fix, plus at over 200k no reason not to run some injector cleaner through it).  Over 4 hours of driving yesterday and it hasn't popped the CEL, so I think the sensor was indeed the issue.  I also seem to have found the clunk I kept getting in 4WD over the winter.  The front driveshaft is wasted.  Given how pitted it is I'm not going to bother putting u-joints in it; I just ordered a new one from Amazon.  Nothing as fun as working on one of the Mustangs, but the DD has to be tip top before there's time to mess with the toys, so hopefully I cleared some "have to do" stuff off my list so I can engage in some "want to do" stuff today.

Re: Hey yall!!

Just been fixin’ up the wife’s truck.

Remanufactured p/s pump and new hoses.
Nice to have with big tars.
Definitely appreciate the simplicity of factory p/s and factory brackets.

Need to look at options for the radiator, as it is seeping coolant.
It still has copper/brass and haven’t had problems with overheating.

Might just use black pepper…or is it black powder? LOL

Re: Hey yall!!

Been in a holding pattern on my red truck, I thought I had a guy that was going to install an 8.50 cert roll cage, but been a week and no comms. I was to the point of doing a bunch of electrical work, but I don't want to have an expensive EFI in there when a bunch of welding is going to happen. I did get a new 16v battery, only 15lbs! Got a special charger for it too, hopefully there will be no burning down of the garage...

Re: Hey yall!!

Latest big project was the rebuild on the heater assy in the 65 and the modification and installation of the air cleaner and snorkel. Worked yesterday on cleaning and waxing it and took it back to the tire store to have the wheels balanced again. Been having a bit of a shake at 55-60. They got it right this time. Now nice and smooth. Had one wheel out of balance. Did a bit of paint touching up - chips, etc. Looks much better now. Will need to get back under the car - got a tiny drip from the trans area. That's next.

See if you can find a radiator shop in your area.  There's still one around here I know of.  Not sure how they do it, old Mr. Farmer I think was in the war, and served for the North!

Re: Hey yall!!

I had to pull my transmission because I could feel a very slight vibration.   I had the pressure plate and flywheel checked for balance and they are dead on.   Yesterday while measuring things I notice my pilot tool would not go in all the way.  Turns I must have damaged the roller pilot bearing when installing the trans.  I bent the metal part of the bearing retainer.  Pretty sure this was the source of my slight vibration.

Then I noticed my new rear main seal had oil drips on it so I ordered a new one.  After reading up on the Teflon seals I read they are installed dry.  I lubed mine up so maybe that's why it is showing signs of leaking.

I also had to remove three of the pulleys on my CVF system.   One needs shimmed out and the other two need to have material removed so I can get a perfect belt alignment.  The tensioner pulley is off so much it's wearing the edge of the belt.  Should be able to use my friend's lath this morning to fix those parts.

Praying the seal shows up early today and not tonight.  I'm down to eight days and our son will be home on leave from India.

Re: Hey yall!!

I think I read here where someone said they only use the solid pilot bushings.  I now have a solid bushing too.

Re: Hey yall!!

Not real lately but just after Thanksgiving I installed the Viking coil-overs, a new Borgeson steering box, and a new Standard Part ignition switch.  Since the first of the year I've racked up about 1100 miles on the Heap and I think I will be happy with those mods.  The coil-overs are significantly less harsh than the old Grab-A-Track 620 springs that I had, and I was able to adjust the front up 1/2" which, combined with 1/2 degree of positive camber, I hope will eliminate a tendency for the right tire to rub a bit.
The new Borg box is one of their latest as opposed to one based on the Trooper box that I bought back in 2014.  Unlike the old one, the new one doesn't leak (so far), and has a much "tighter" feel on center whereas the old one tended to be loose, and it had been back to Borg to fix a sector leak and now had a input shaft leak.
As I said, I've been putting on the miles as I can and it appears that the new ignition switch has fixed the "Auto-Shut-Down" feature the car had developed on the Bash trip last year.  Actually, it developed that feature some time ago and I kept replacing likely culprits and due to the randomness of the problem, kept thinking I had fixed it...butt (TS&T) had not.  So I'll say that it's fixed.....so far!

Hope to see ya'all in Texas come September.

Oh, and I also fixed a small coolant leak that I've been fighting that seems to be part of a built-in issue with the AFR heads.  Won't go into details here but it's on-going and I fix it for a year or so by the addition of five or six heaping tablespoons of black pepper to the radiator....NOT POWDER, though there have been moments when it was considered.

I've only used the roller bearing ones in Fords for several decades now and have never had a problem.  That said, I only use OE Ford ones, not aftermarket.  Bushings IME wear out prematurely.  I replaced bushings in two different vehicles (one Toyota, one Chevy) due to noise from being worn when the clutch was at most half worn.  Of course I replaced the clutches while I had them all apart, so in essence the bushing cost me half the life of the clutch.  On those vehicles there was no option for a roller bearing, and Lord I wished there had been.  Possibly the bushings were just bad, there was a corrosion issue, or the previous guy had installed them dry, but I'm inclined not to take a risk unless I absolutely have no other choice.
