New shifter needed an adapter bolt/stud

I bought an adjustable shifter handle for the T5 and wanted the stock leather T5 knob.  The two have different threads sizes so I found a stud that had both thread sizes but the hex part is too large to fit the shifter insert.   I'll machine it down and it should be perfect.

Re: New shifter needed an adapter bolt/stud

I got to thinking and milling the hex done isn't going to work.  I need to turn it done and run a die to add more threads.

A piece of all-thread or a long bolt same size as the knob, then turn one end down and rethread to fit the lever. Might be simpler.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: New shifter needed an adapter bolt/stud

Just an observation.   Does that plastic but housing turn?  So it "sucks" the nut in as it's being threaded?   Now-to my point:  why?  All you need to do is lathe it down to where it fits inside.   Where is it going to go?  It screws into two ends, it can't really get stuck.   Just turn it until it fits in the hex and tighten it up and go.   Use thread lock on one side of you have to.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

The insert is designed to allow you to adjust where the knob tightens up at meaning it'll end up facing the right direction.
