It looks pretty nice. I stuck it on the 69 because the 66 is 300’ up at the other shop.
After seeing it on the 69 hood, I think it could actually look pretty cool on that car.
Who was it that welded one of these on their hood? Looking for tips and issues to watch for. I searched for 20+ years to find a nice original 65-66 hood so I can cut it up to weld this scoop on it, or rather, into it.
Found the article by JKordzi in the Paint & Body forum. Thanks for posting that!
Is there an official dimension from the front point of the hood to the scoop?

Cool. New parts delivered is always exciting. What are the bare body panels in the background for, the 65 convertible?

I really like that scoop. I like the looks of it on the 69 as well.

Yep. Collection of parts for the convertible.

With today's bonding materials wouldn't it be better to bond it to the hood? I would be afraid of warping the hood welding in it. If I had to weld it I would Tig weld it.

On the sides, what is the approximate distance to the edge of the hood? I recently saw 18" spot welder tongs...

I don’t know if it is ‘official’, but the fiberglass Shelby hood that I have, the rear center of the scoop is 1.75” from the rear lip of the hood.
BTW – if anyone is interested, the fiberglass Shelby hood is available. I bought it used several years ago, is believed to be a Tony Branda model, doesn’t appear to have ever been on a driven car. I installed it, brought to my body man for paint, he pointed out how much work would be needed to properly fit the hood (and actually refused to install it as-is!). I also have the ‘light weight’ hood springs. Let me know if anyone is interested.

It will be butt welded, not overlapped.

Could you get the measurement from the front point of the hood to the top of the scoop opening? The rear has such a gradual slope I am concerned we might not be measuring to the same point.

I remember that Viewer, It was a while back. I remember the guy using wet paper towles (blue) between the scoop and hood. He then took his time and slowly welded the whole scoop on. Someone here said that it was a way cool way he did to prevent warpage of the metal that way. I think I would experiment with some scrap before trying it on the scoop myself. Butt then I can't weld so?

I have the fiberglass bolt on and CJ Pony has a video for installing it not sure if measurements are same but maybe close.

I measured 23½” from the top of the scoop, to the front of the hood. The same way shown in the video the Billy Walton provided.
Hope this helps.

Didn't the 69's have a stock scoop in some of their configurations? JMHO but instead of hacking up a stock hood as nice as that one appears to be, wouldn't it be better to buy an OE hood with the scoop?

The scoop is going on his 65 convertible

Oops. Still, if you have a nice, intact stock hood, they're rare as hens teeth and it'd be a shame to hack one up. Still MHO.

I looked for decades to find a good original hood. Just so I can cut it up!
Aftermarket hoods just are not right. They are bowed up on the sides so you see the fender bolts.
I will weld the scoop on and have a nice unique part that very few own.

The 69 needs the Boss 429 scoop...lol
