Congratulations!  Great job.

As for the insurance, I always thought you wanted to have an "agreed value" policy.  "Stated value" policies typically only pay actual cash value (or what the insurance company thinks the value is) in the event of a total loss while "agreed value" policies pay the full value in the event of a total loss.

For example, if I have a $50000 agreed value policy and my car is totaled, the insurance company pays me $50000.  If I have a $50000 stated value policy and my car is totaled, and the actual cash value of the car (based on market values) is $20000, I only get $20000.

When I was looking to insure mine after it was painted and running properly, I took the summary of all of my receipts and records showing he work I did, work and cost of other professionals' work, and the cost of the parts, to a certified professional classic auto appraiser and had him value the car.  Then I used that appraised value to determine the agreed value I wanted to insure your car for.  I used the appraisal report to help substantiate the value to the insurance company.

Yes and no.  Stated value needs to be based on something, and that part is on you.  There's nothing inherently wrong with such a policy, but I'd advise having the car appraised.  I paid $200 for that service and that appraised value sets the value of the car, because it represents what such cars actually sell for currently.  You should have the car reappraised every couple of years to be safe.  If you leave anything to an insurance company they will try to pay out as little as possible.  I always say that insurance companies are in business to do two things: collect premiums and deny claims.

You might also try Grundy, Condon Skelly, or see about getting a stated value policy through the carrier which covers all your other vehicles and/or home.  To be honest, $900 seems high to me.  My DDs cost me about $1,000/year each.  A car that sees 1/10th-1/20th the mileage driven by and adult should be less than that, even if the value is high.  Just my opinion.

I was quoted a policy on my stated value. I also got the cherished value so I can keep the mustang and collect the money. I'm also considered a pro street build which is good and bad. The bad is I can't insure our son until he's been driving for ten years. The good is I'm covered for occasional track use.

Another thing that I'm sure affects my sure is the horse power. The pro street thing is the wider than stock tires, mini tubs and the six point roll bar. With Hagerty I can use mine to run to the store, go get ice cream and things like that. Most others limit when and where you drive. I want to drive mine as much as I can.

So that's kind of a horse of a different color.  If they are going to cover the car at the track that's a whole other matter.  Though I always found it absurd that they consider the track to be more dangerous than the street.  I typically feel much safer on the track than the street because the people at the track are all there for the same thing, there are less outside distractions, and the drivers tend to be better.  It does depend on when you go though.  I won't go Friday nights anymore, because its always a bunch of yahoos blowing their junk up and making it hard to get track time due to clean up.  The last Friday I went I got there when the gates opened and was there all night to run TWICE!  Wednesday night by comparison are all real racers.  The last Wednesday I went I got there are opening and ran 15 times before 8:00PM (3 hours give or take), had my fun and went home.  If you're going to run it investigate the best days/times to run to avoid that nonsense.

Getting tags today but won't have time to get it aligned.   Hopefully tomorrow I can do that.

Re: First Drive!!!!!!

Well my great luck has struck again.  My 20 year old rusted starter that I had as a spare that came with me when I moved to Florida died last night.  Then my battery was dead and discovered my charger was no longer working.  Had a 9 am alignment appointment which I never made.

Some may recall I had a hole in my radiator repaired.  Well it let go on the drive to the alignment appointment.  Was by a parts store so we let it cool down and topped it off to head back home.  We made two more stops to let it cool and topped it off.   New radiator is being shipped overnight so it should be here sometime tomorrow.  Really want to have this thing running and driving well before our sons leave is over.  He flys out on the 21st, only a few days left.   Ugh

Re: First Drive!!!!!!

I think you'll be okay.  Good time to upgrade the starter.  Radiator should be no big deal as long as it arrives in a reasonable amount of time.  Alignment is easy enough to do yourself if you get stuck.  I haven't paid for an alignment in 20 years.  Fasttrax gauge off Amazon and some turn plates and a tape measure.

Re: First Drive!!!!!!

The new radiator arrive just before lunch time.   I bought a fail safe thermostat but it wouldn't fit inside the stainless steel thermostat housing I bought.  So I went against my better judgement and put the one we just pulled back in and it was opening and closing at different temperatures where the temp gauge would sit right at 190.  I knew I should've just went back to the store before we put it all back together.   Good news is it not sits steady again at 190.

Also my ASM four point seat belts came in today.  We also got them installed.   As sad as it was to have to fix everything again, me and my son agreed it was nice to be working on it together so it wasn't all bad.  I'll see if the shop can align it tomorrow.   We have it pretty close, enough to drive and not tear up the tires.

I'm confused; if the temp was steady at 190, why do you thinkg the t-stat was opening and closing at different temps?
(and yes, if there is any question regarding the t-stat, I'd say replace it)

The original thermostat worked fine and was steady at 190.  Then I had the 250 temp and shut it down.  Not sure if the 250 was from the repaired radiator failing or if the thermostat failed causing the repair to fail.  After installing the new radiator it would not stay at 190 no more.   Got over 210, so I went a bought another new thermostat and it now sits at 190 like it should.

Re: First Drive!!!!!!

Found my leak in the hydro boost.  Had an o-ring fail.   Most likely it slipped during installation and got damaged.

I haven't opened it up yet.  I did creep up to 4,000 rpm yesterday.  Still trying to get a feel for it and work out any more bugs.

No diaper needed here, it'll just be big smiles.   Lol

Driving to and from the alignment yesterday the temperature did great.   Driving home after the alignment was very rewarding.   The car drives amazing well.  The power steering is point on and super tight and very responsive. There was a concern the PS was going to have too much pressure for the steering rack.  Of course the braking is spot on.  All the math and research paid off relocating the 03 cobra hydroboost to get the correct pedal ratio.  There was so much unknown for me during this build.  I took on a lot of things I've never done before and it all worked out.  There was some luck involved in a few things.  I really need to add side mirrors!!!!

Re: First Drive!!!!!!

Well me and my son took the mustang to put gas in it and when we came around the corner near our house there was an unmarked cop suv sitting in the empty lot.  We drove around a 4 mile circle in the neighborhood calibrating the speedometer and teach my son how to drive a stick shift.  That suv never moved.  He did pretty good driving the stick shift.  It's not easy because it doesn't like to idle below 1200 rpm.

People park and fish there all the time but I pretty sure this was an unmarked cop car.  One of the neighbors doesn't like my loud car and I have not done anything to attract attention at all.  Never about 3k except one time I hit 4k and that was a slow acceleration not a smash of the go pedal.
