I have been told that ethanol is bad for fuel systems. Should I be using an ethanol treatment product such as Sta Bil to eliminate the problem? On gas pumps locally (and I believe nationally - thanks Mr. President) they don't have to disclose ethanol blended gas anymore so I don't really know what I am getting from the pump. What do you guys think?

Don't think its "bad" for the system so much as you don't store it for the winter with NO additive in the eythenol. Plain old gas is certainly better butt.....I have NOT had any problems with the eyth doing any damage to the system.

The ethanol eats the effn fuel lines, and rubber O rings & such. Your right it's not bad. It is Very Bad!!
Replace rubber fuel lines with "Green Stripe" ethanol resistant hoses.

Add a bit of water to that gasohol and the ethanol and water conbine to make a mild acid that eats the aluminum, zinc, and pot metal in early fuel systems. Get the Stabil that says "protects fuel systems". Add it to every fillup.

According to the map, Charlston has real gasoline. Maybe the reason you aren't having problems is that you aren't using gasohol. Do you look when you fill up?

Another product to consider is StarTron........used a lot in marine applications but, works in any engine to help with the ethanol problem.
Can be purchased at wally world too for about $6 and, you dont' need to add much to the fuel.
I used it in my Goldwing cause around here, all you can get is the corn blend crap and that bike tended to stay of the sidestand for long periods of time.

I also heard Seafoam additive is also good to protect fuel syst. From ethynol based fuels.
I use it in my Goat and i dont drive it very much, it always cranks up/runs w/ no problem.

It CAN be bad if untreated and left sitting for a long time. I am attempting to upload a pic of ethanol I removed from a buddy's boat, hope the pic works.

Startron is great, but sta-bil makes an ethanol marine formula,as does Lucas. The red stab-bil doesn't work so well on the new gas.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
