Got the new wheels on my Ford today

Removed solid black discs and put these on. Still not in love with the look, but better than black.

Detonate improvement.

Re: Got the new wheels on my Ford today

Definitely better. I may be getting old, but I can't understand what the person was on that came up with the idea of solid black wheels.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Got the new wheels on my Ford today

Those look great.  Did the extra width of the rim reduce the sidewall so much?  It looks like the gap between the tire and the fender lip is much larger with the new rims.

Also, I have to ask - does your Maverick have turn signals?  The Mavericks I see locally apparently don't.  The speedometers don't seem to be all that accurate either.

Just curious ...

Re: Got the new wheels on my Ford today

Hmm, I wonder if they make a bigger disc and Cobra calipers for your truck?

Re: Got the new wheels on my Ford today

The Lobo comes with bigger rotors and calipers and they work very well. Bigger than my 13" cobra brakes on my 66.  I agree it has a lot of gap between tire and wheel arch.  And the Lobo is 1.9" lower than a normal Maverick. Stock wheels are 19 x 7.5" with 225x55 tires  I do not want to lower it because the ride is so good and I am not 20 years old any more.  New wheels are Vors TR4 19x8.5 with 35mm backspacing.  I found them on ebay.

I hate the 2" tall tuner lug nuts.  All I could find at the moment.  I will be looking for some similar sized wheels with 42mm baxkspacing, or maybe wait until it needs tires and go with 20's.  Seems to be more choices in a 20.

Re: Got the new wheels on my Ford today

Think this must have been the inspiration for those black wheels.

Also reminds me of Audi’s UFO brakes.

I'm wondering (and it's none of my business, really) how (or if) you'll correct the speedometer and odometer for the obviously different tire diameter?

I am using the original tires, so there is no difference in tire diameter.  I do agree the gap between tire and fender is excessive, even though the Lobo sits 1.9" lower than a "normal" Maverick XL, XLT or Lariat.  It would look better lowered, but I don't want to ruin the smooth car-like ride.

Anyone remember the sixties Pontiac 8 stud wheels and brakes?
Be glad that never took hold!

Yeah, the wheel studs were only attached to the drums, weren’t they?  Never had opportunity to take one apart.

Re: Got the new wheels on my Ford today

It’s a ‘62 (as I recall) and it is beautiful.
A friend has several classics he loves to drive when not working.
It has the 3 dueces on it too.
All original.

I am using the original tires, so there is no difference in tire diameter.

But the new rims are an inch wider so the tire carcass has to span a wider gap at the rim, making the sidewall shorter and the diameter smaller.  If the diameter was the same, wouldn't the gap between the tire and the body be the same as that you had with the OE rims?  If you don't believe me, check your speedometer against your phone gps.  :-)

EDIT TO ADD:  Actually, it may not matter anyway, depending on how the vehicle speedometer is driven.  If it already uses GPS, what you do with the tires will have no effect.  I simply don't know how those work.

Yup, and it appears to have the 421 too.  Love those Pontiacs
