Block ID

My other block is in the machine shop, so I cannot compare side-by-side.
What does CA mean on the number?  I know it is 87, but lifter spider bosses are not threaded. It was flat tappet application, probably truck.
Does it look like lifter bores would accept dog-bones and spider?

Re: Block ID

Wasn't that the Lincoln or something block that had a knock sensor in them?  Maybe the Versailles or Granadas?

Granada/Versailles ended in 1980, so unless this was a super rare, advanced production 1987 date coded (back into the future) block, it is doubtful it came from one.

Re: Block ID

The E7TE block when used in a truck had a flat tappet cam. When used in a Mustang it had a roller cam. Apparently the bosses in the valley can be tapped for the roller cam spider.

Re: Block ID

Agree, the third digit “T” is for truck, the “CA” is an engineering update.

Re: Block ID

Found this while doing some cleanup on it today.
Looks like a clearancebjob for a 347 kit has been started. Funny thing is the rod is fine and it rotates fine.
Must have had a problem
In the past, but looks like a 347 clearancing would eliminate the problem. It was running like this in cutrent configuration.
Anyone need a block for a 347 project?

Re: Block ID

Definitely a truck block.  The valley bosses could be drilled and taped to use factory roller cam hardware.  Think that missing chunk of cylinder probably relegates it to the boat anchor pile though.

Yep
Unless a 347 was in the works.  Anybody need a bbq pit block?

Even then, you'd have to at least clean it so you could mag it to make sure that there are no cracks radiating from that section that got blown out, and honestly to sink money into a block you already know is damaged is just throwing money away IMO,.

That's good to know. I have a 5.0 block from an 89 F250 for my wife's build, and I want to run a roller cam.
Yes, the trucks used a knock sensor behind the intake.

Re: Block ID

I think I will just pull the crank and rods and let this thing go. If the crank needs work, it becomes a trotline weight
Anybody needs parts, just let me know.
After I finish the 331 I am building now, I am retiring from engine building for others. My back doctor says my spine can’t handle lifting heavy parts any more. I think he is correct.
Anybody need a custom 331 roller?  I just got the block completed. It will be a really nice engine.
