Starter for t-5

I'm installing a t-5 in my 66 fastback and wanted opinions on what starter to use.

Check out Skip White Performance on e-bay. I'd recommend the one  with the built in solenoid and the mini size/high torque. Less apt to get heat soaked from the headers like the old style "big-fat-ones".

Re: Starter for t-5

c4 starter, t5 starter, they''ll all work..the 93 mustangs had a mini starter, and the explorer 5.0's had a mini starter too with an actual solonid attached.

Re: Starter for t-5

The only one that does NOT work is the manual transmission starter from a 289 or 302.  Later years, they converted to all use same starter. (Nose depth difference)

I use a 66 starter for an automatic 289, but the later style works great too,

Re: Starter for t-5

I used the mini starter with built in solenoid. Wanted to eliminate the solenoid on the side wall to neaten things up a bit.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

This is true as long as you are using a T-5 bellhousing, but if you are using a 4-speed bellhousing with an adapter plate then you need to use the 4-speed starter.

Match the starter to the bellhousing:
t-5 bellhousing = c4 starter
4-speed bellhousing = 4-speed starter
