I had a cracked and mangled 64 1/2 driver side seat frame. So I took the plunge and put newer seats in my stang. I was able to find some 07 seats which I like because they have some retro style to them. Here's a few shots compared to stock.

They fit like a charm in the cavity of my stang. They are a lot lighter than stock I'd say a good 10 pounds. I had mine upholstered in black carbon fiber to match the rest of my interior.

I like the fact that I can tilt my seat to help treat my bad back I have about 6 inches of leg room space from the bottom of the steering wheel. I used stock seat frames. With 1/2" spacers. You could get away with none if you slightly trim the side plastic out slightly for the slide but i didn't do this because I had them upholstered before I put the stock seat frams on them slight mistake but they still fit great. Oh and seat height compared to stock with out head rests is about 6 1/2" not bad.

Very Nice Seats. Were these seats from 07 Mustang GT? What did you use to recover the seat?
Thanks

They were from an 07 gt I recovered them in black carbon fiber upholstery very nice doesn't obsorb heat much either suprised I would get in my stang in a 100 plus degree day and they were actually pretty cool. I like them a lot I was going to not put the headrest holes in them cause I wasn't going to use them but my dad told me to cause that way if I sell me car a taller guy would like it. Anyways I also had my upholstery guy upholster and cover the red plastic side panel on the seats in the same upholstery. Only thing is if anyone here decides to put theses in there car remember to off set a small amount inward to the center of the car because you have bigger bulsters on these seats and if you don't then you will rub the door pull handles slightly when adjusted in to a certain position. Or you can always trim the stock 64-66 door handles down. I don't know if the 67 and up would have this problem with those door handles but make sure you measure first.

Here's another seat idea for some people who don't mind a gm part in they're stang i had a 90 chevy beretta gt when I first got my licsence when I was restoring my mustang. Well the seats in that car would be awesome in almost any build being the manual ones cause they have still a few adjustments so you can tilt more on an angle up or down nice for guys with bad backs. Also on headrests some like them some say they look stupid in classics cause it makes them to tall well check you're salvage yard most will fit any seats I think i might put on gm 02 suburban because they have a tilt option in them

My drive side was electric I have new carpet and I didn't feel like modding my floor board either and so I pulled it out. And used old seat tracks and used steel 3/4" spacers. But it's best to off set seat so clears the 65 door handle seance bolsters are big on these seats. Or keep them bolted directly to the seat and you'll have to trim the plastic side peice. But what I did was I took off the electric buttons and filled the holes and then covered the plastic peice with the same upholstery
True74yamaha... I am so grateful I found your post, although I'm aware that you have not posted in this thread for more than a year. I am about to do the exact same thing, 2007 seats in my 1965 fastback and I'm beginning to regret my decision. I have several questions about how you pulled this off. Here are 2 to start. I'll have more based on the answers to these questions:
1. Were you able to retain the electric controlls for tilt, and forward/back movement?
2. Did yours have the airbag function? If so, How did you deal with that?

ive done this a while ago with a pair of 07 manual tracked mustang seats i used the 65 seat tracks ill post the link to the write up.
i used the 65 seat tracks and 3/4 inch spacers to make sure the seat cleared the carpet they work great feel great too very nice to sit in and they can recline

I didn't keep my electric controls I removed them and had the plastic side pieces upholstered. The air bag I was able to pull that out fairly easily. With a little corressing.
Personally unless you rework the seat pan and seat track to lower the seats, I personally don't think that it looks good when you can see the seats stick way up past the tops of the doors. Or in a truck when they stick up far into the back glass, that just doesn't look right.

Biggest thing though is off setting the driver side seat track to the right on base of the seat this keeps you centered with the wheel and makes sure you'll have enough door handle clearance and clearance around the quarter crank when you recline the seat back. If you have a welder you could tack the seat frame in place to check for clearance and go from there or when you drill the holes for the seat tracks to bolt them on to the 07s, that is if you use the original 65 tracks you could make slot holes so you could then adjust to your seats on the tracks to get the optimum clearance.

Mine were from an 07 GT. To bad they were at a higher priced junkyard where they pull the parts for you and you wait. If I was at a pick n pull I would've gotten the motor and transmission.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
