You can't go wrong with a short throw but you need to research what brand you would like to go with.

Pro 5.0 is great.
The Hurst shifter with aluminum cast housing is garbage. Very notchy when going through neutral, during every shift.

I second the Pro 5.0

I have the Pro 5,0 and like it. Butt GRABBING a shifter is usually a personal preference.

Here's how I made the throw shorter and also moved it:
Reason for all this work was that if used where it's supposed to be it gave me "old Swedish Army truck shifter flashbacks".

There you go Mike, as simple as that, crank up the lathe and milling machine and start making chips fly.
By the way Hakan very well done, that shifter looks as solid as the Rock of Gibralter.

Sal, I have had a Pro 5.0 and a Steeda Tri Axe. I prefer the Pro 5.0. Make sure you get one adjustable stops. If you want an old school, DIY method, cut a couple of inches off the stick, re-thread, and reinstall the knob. With the T5 in a 66, that approach may put the knob outta reach, unless you drive with the seat slid forward.....

My brother had replaced the shifter in the Fox GT that Josh and I had with a Pro 5.0. I liked it and I never heard Josh complain.

I have a Steeda Tri-axe with a stock-looking handle and knob. Considering the length of the handle, the shifts are relatively short and precise.
I have no experience with it, however, American Muscle has a very similar looking shifter for $70. It is mostly well-regarded in the reviews, so perhaps maybe worth a try.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
