If I ever decide to paint the car, I plan to remove the rear side markers.  But I really like the faded gold patina, so that may never happen.

That's an interesting tid-bit.  My '68 has the surface mounted reflectors with a chrome bezel.  The date for it is (14C) March 14, 1968.  So is my car an "early" later model '68?
 

February 15th, '68 was the changeover date from the early recessed reflectors to the later model surface-mounted quarter panel reflectors.

The UAW strike in '68, at the Ford assembly plants, is what forced the various changes to parts installed (or, more correctly), deleted from the later models, compared to what all was installed on the earlier '68 models.

It sat ridiculously high in front. I remember my 70 Boss 302 also sat high in front from the factory.
Yes, the gold 68 is my car. I still have my 66..  i have a 1989 Lincoln MK VII 5.0 and AOD I will be installing in the 68. It will be carbureted, box stock except for 289 Hipo manifolds and a 2-1/4" dual exhaust system. I will use the serpentine belt system from a 90 5.0 Mustang. I used the Lincoln serpentine belt setup on the 54 F-100 I built. It is very similar with only a few minor parts different than the Mustang version.  I plan to install a Vintage Air AC system.   The 65 coupe I bought to use as a donor for the front half of the yellow 65 fastback had a fresh 3.25 traction lock 8" in it, so that will be replacing the 2.79 single track I installed in the 68 last month.
