Hey forum people...!
After the 1500 mile drive for the MustangSteve Bash this year, we decided to do a 302 roller engine swap into our 66 coupe. I’ve pretty much collected everything that I need except for the pressure plate and
10 1/2 inch clutch combination (we’re running a T5). We’re also swapping to the MustangSteve cable clutch & power brake set up.
For those of you who have done this swap, do you have a clutch and pressure plate recommendation?
We’re looking at about 300 hp.

many years ago I used a kit similar to this. Remember is this case size does matter. ( match to flywheel / tranny silly)

Ford Performance 10.5" pressure plate with disc and throwout bearing $220 (bolt and dowel kit sold separately $14)
Ford Performance cast iron flywheel $140
You can spend more if you want, but these will get the job done nicely for a 300 hp engine.

Ditto to what Jeff said.

No need to go "super-duper-heavy duty-full-bore-throw-down-high zoot- high dollar-leg-killer.......
I 've been using the standard 10" clutch kit from NAPA!! Works GREAT and the price is right. I just swapped mine out right before the bash.
The old one had been in ........9/10 years?!! Still had plenty of clutch left just changed it out because the tranny was out.
NONE are made in the US (as far as I could find out) Soooooo all 10-inchers are about the same quality...ALL china-pena made.
Get the lightest flywheel(steel) you can find....Some ARE lighter than others.....and like your Dad told you...."Don't-ride-the-clutch" and you'll do fine!

I'm using a King Cobra clutch kit only because it was free.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
