Ha!  I'd treat the snowblower to premium!  (actually, I do...., but premium here is a buck a gallon more than by you)

Today's cars are controlled by computer programs. The design engineer took the requirement spec and only down loaded operating octane requirement.  IE designed for REG then Programmed foe REG.   BUTT  Designed for Prem they put in Programs to operate on both REG and Prem.    NOT the other way around. sorry.

Higher octane fuel burns more slowly that lower octane fuel; that's how its able to better resist uncontrolled combustion.  Fuel economy will actually suffer by running a higher octane than the engine requires.  There is no benefit.  If it runs on 87 give it 87.

The big difference around here is that Premium has a lower alcohol content than regular which works well for the winter months where we get so much condensation. I always use premium towards the end of summer in all the lawn and garden equipment that sits all winter.

I use 93 octane for my two stroke fuel too.  My chainsaw actually needs it, so everything else gets it too.  I always add 1 oz. per gallon of Startron to all my mix gas, and use only the Stihl gray bottle mix oil.  I've yet to have a fuel related issue with anything, and most of the stuff sits until its needed.

No ethanol free fuel around here.  I know some places out of state its available, wish someone around here was smart enough to do that.  But I've yet to have an issue adding the Startron at 1 oz. per gallon to everything that sits with fuel in it.
