The owner says he was told by a previous owner that it was specially built to go overseas to England I think! Thus the rear view mirros on the fenders! can anyone dispute or confirm what he was told

Though some Euro cars of the era had that look, Japanese cars did have that feature too. I doubt it was exclusive to export cars. Did it have a one piece export brace?? RHD?? Kilometer Speedo??
That "Thunderbolt" hood bubble wasn't fer export.
If the guy wasn't just trying to pump up his cars value, I'd bet the "story" came from a PO handed to a gulible buyer.

export brace was missing but he said it was 2 peice. it was LHD! and i did not notice the speedo.
He was not trying to sell the car so i doubt he was pumping it up. he said he was the third owner with the second being a relative of his. he just said he was told about the export part

As a sidenote: My '67 coupe had holes on top of the front fenders like if there once were mirros attached to them, but I highly doubt they did that at the factory as I can't recall seeing a classic Mustang here in Europe with mirrors on the front fenders.

Perhaps the positive battery cable looped around the hood bumper was an export only feature as well.

actually that was a bungee cord, for lack of a battery tie down.

An old high-school buddy had a '65 Falcon that had the mirrors mounted way up at the front of the fenders like the car in the link below, I think they were even the same shape - rectangular not round - seemed like that's where they'd always been on his car which was a very stock, original paint 2-door hardtop 6-cyl, three on the tree.

Dealers sold those Rotunda brand mirrors over the counter and to a customer that wanted mirrors on a car that had none, or just one.
I remember seeing lots of people driving with them in San Antonio when I was growing up.
It is the absolute worst location for a mirror that anyone could choose. You cannot see a darned thing out of them. The closer to your eye, the better they work, and the wider field of vision you will have.

Maybe it's just a British thing. I had a '52 Jaguar and a '58 MGA that both had the mirrors mounted way up on the front fenders. I think they were originals.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
