After hearing a couple of Mustangs at the Bash that had the Walker mufflers that MS recommends, I had to order a couple. After measuring, it looks like the driver side rear muffler will interfere with the brake flex line to the rear axle. Did you guys with 65/66 cars have any issue with the flex line? Any pics or tips would be appreciated.

OMG, Sound over function! Do you ever sleep?
I run ZERO mufflers on my truck and it's quieter than my 67.

Um...Gary, you can stay, but the BS has got to go!

I clamped the brake cables up to the floor above the mufflers. They have about 1/2” clearance and have not had any melting issues.

Thank you, thank you very much Steve.

Cobra ebrake cables on a 66.

Thanks Steve, that definitely helps.

MS,
Please elaborate on which Walker Muffs this post refers to. I search and find a lot for Walker Caddie muffs. Part numbers would be helpful.

I'm not Steve...but...Gary, with a reply like you posted in post #2 above, no soup for you! Kidding...but you knew that.

I just love muffler installers that do not understand the laws of physics.

Well, I can finally talk to the passenger in my 69 without yelling at them. I'm so pleased with the Walker Cadillac muffs, if MS were here I'd give him a big 'ol kiss for sharing this trick. Sally just might not want a ride in it now.
The 3.70 gears really make a difference for around town driving with the AOD.

Looks great! Do you get any drone or load noise not having full tail pipes?
Offline
Load noise? Not familiar with that, but I'm guessing you wrote road noise. No drone, and all I know is that it's mucho quieter than before.

Why not mount them up higher so you don’t wipe them out on the first speed bump you encounter?
Mufflers properly mounted will not be visible from the side of the car if you stand about 30’ to the side.
Sorry, guys, but that is a pet peave of mine. It is not any harder to do it right instead of just hanging them down there...somewhere.
Glad you are enjoying the peace and quiet they provide.

Higher? C'mon man, give me some slack Jack . Do you really think I'm gonna have the mufflers showing from the side? I'm really not some ditch bank okie. I mounted them a bit higher than the last set, which didn't show from the side, and never contacted a parking lot speed bump. The bottom of the muffs are parallel to the lower edge of the subframe connectors.
Next time I'm under there I'll snap a pic of how close they are to the floor.

Glad to hear the muffs are tucked away. In defense of MS, they do look like they are hanging low from the pics taken from behind.
Offline
Ya Al, I gotta agree, they do look like low hanging fruit in that pic.

Glad you can have a conversation with passengers. I feel the same way no matter what SIXSALLYSIX says. I also like being able to hear the sound system since I put a lot of money in it.

Does sally even have a Mustang??? Haven't seen proof of it at any of the Bashes I've been to. Just sayin'
And since my son went overboard (imo) on the stereo, I've had no problem hearing it with any of the 3 sets of muffs that have been on it.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
