I've had this t5 wc for a few years, I am getting ready to put it in my car, but I wanted to pull the top and do an inspection of the gears and what not.
I got the top put on but I am having issues getting the offset lever with the spring and ball into the guide plate. I did this years ago and don't recall having an issue. I looked on the computer and saw where a guy was doing this on a t5 out of a chevy. he had the tail shaft off and was pushing the off set lever with the ball and spring down while sliding the tail assembly into place.
is this the way it needs to go back together, or is there another way?

All shift forks in neutral. Top cover goes on by angling the forks to the left side and sort of putting the cover on by sliding it down/sideways at the same time. Failing to do this will have the car stuck in a gear.
Then put the tailshaft housing on.
Take the shift detent, load the spring and ball into it. Compress the spring by pushing down on the detent plate as you get the detent started. Once its started you may have to tap it onto the shaft with a brass drift and hammer because the spring pushing upwards wants to make it cockeyed and unable to go onto the shaft. Once it starts to go on just get the pin holes lined up and drive the roll pin in.

A dab of vaseline on the detent spring will hold it in the shift block also for a little assistance. Follow above instructions.and your golden.

I got it back together, reverse was a bit difficult to get. when you are working by your self, and the trans is on top of the tool box it is hard to get a good grip on it to keep it from moving around. the gears and all looked really good, I think this may have been rebuilt before I bought the car. about 750.00 for the complete donor 89 mustang and the engine runs ok too.
