I had my first when I was 16 ( 1972 ) it was a 64 1/2 # 300 something yellow it was a 289 auto I worked on it in high school .. my 2nd was green a 65 260 auto not sure if the block was original ..
when my son was16 my father -in- law bought him this " 66 "
He was done with it by the time he was graduating high school ... Didn't like that you have to work on them..
So now I own it and I've been working on it for quite a while almost 14 years ..
After upgrading the engine using the original 289 block - Gt-40 heads - roller cam, lifters, and roller rocker arm assembly -edlebach torquer manifold - holley 650 - hooker headers - ram air ( 69" fiberglass reproduction)
I added a T5 with " MS " cable clutch transmission and Petals with the bearings assembly
Then I installed " BB " 4 way disc Curved and slotted Brake assembly - adding " MS " power brakes and master system ( after all finished and operating it for a while decided to go with hydro boost upgrade instead because of the cam vacuum being only 8" )
Then remove fenders and doors and fixed sheet metal sanded primed and finally painted added a painted Striping on the hood to go with the ram air horses
I sprayed the interior from under the dash to the trunk with rhino liner - added sound deadening -put headliner, carpet, and upholstery - reinstalled all the glass with new rubber
Now I can start driving it
When my power steering slave unit busted I upgraded that unit to a bergeson power steering unit
After driving in this Texas heat didn't like how high the temperature would rise to so I then upgraded a 24" cross flow radiator in the process I added a 130 amp alternator and turned my battery 90゚
I'm just now finishing up the final touches on a hydro boost unit, I also added power steering cooler and drilled lower part of the front valance for more air flow It seems to be working good
Still on my list to finish up is to put a custom spoiler to my liking and install the rear leaf Springs and the 3.25 gear set
