Bob, if you were successful with raising the exhaust to the point where it's level with the sump on the 4R70W, Your new low point is probably the nub that hangs down from the middle of the sump.
I suggest using an AODE pan and filter to gain an extra inch or so of clarance. Maybe your AOD pan would work also, butt I'm not sure about that.
I did the same thing on my 4R70W - used an AOD pan to get rid of that ridiculous nub sticking down.

Thanks Ron. Now we know an AOD pan will also work. I also took the opportunity to fit a drain plug.

Cara’s 65 coupe sold for $40,000 a year ago, but was in Norway. Remember when she and I built it and changed color from poppy red to silver blue?
Started life as zero option 65 coupe T code with 13” wheels. Left Tx as 5.0 with 351w heads and Foxbody EFI, AOD, power windows and locks, 15” styled steel wheels with K/H disc brakes and, of course, MustangSteve power brakes and factory style AC. I sure wish we had never sold it.

Gentlemen, I must CLARIFY some BAD info I gave you. I stated that I used an AOD pan on my 4R70W - that is not correct. To use the AOD pan on a 4R70W you must drill an additional hole in the pan and plug the other hole. I got my 4R70W flat pan from my son and he said it came off a 94 E150 2wd Econoline van with a 5.0L and a 4R70W. I also used the filter called out for that application. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. Blame it on a senior moment......sorry!

Here is why this is the best place on the Internet! Thursday afternoon Ron called to make sure I got this information. He had my contact info since he had used my AOD rebuild tools to do his 4R70W. He was very concerned that I'd dive into using the AOD pan and find out if wouldn't work without further modifications.
Is this the best bunch or what?
Thanks Ron. Since then I called a local semi-retired trans guy and hes checking his stash to see if he has an AODE pan. If not, I have an extra 4R70W pan that can undergo a sumpectomy.
