Depending on the particular engine I've found the two piece guideplates can be easier to set up. I had one piece ones on an engine years ago that took hours to get set so there was the correct clearance for both pushrods. I personally found the two piece ones on my AFRs MUCH easier since I could set each pushrod individually.

I'm sure you are right. Just hoping the Comp adjustables are a little better than AFR's. Either way I think the hardened washers will make a big difference.

Okay, I believe I have found a better solution. RV6 sent me a half set of Edlebrock one-piece guide plates that he had collecting dust. I tested them on all cylinders this morning and they appear to work perfectly. They have just a bit of wiggle room and position the rockers so that the rollers cover the valve stem though are not perfectly positioned front-to-rear. AFR says to make sure the rollers cover the valve stem so a bit fore/aft should not be a problem. They also seem to be much nicer stampings that the ones that came with the heads and allow the studs to pull down evenly.

I am happy to hear that a previous failure of mine left me with 4 plates you could use. We really could use a thread entitled "Failures and what I learned from them".

So the saga continues...
As you know, RV6 sent me half a set of EB fixed guide plates and they work nearly perfect. Butt, (TS&T) I had already ordered a set of COMP adjustable plates which were three days past their est. delivery date. Didn't want to be waiting for a set of EB's also 'cause I knew the Comps would show up as soon as I ordered the EB's. Make sense?
So the comps get here a week late and they are very nice, good stamping, do what they are designed to do except to center the rocker fore and aft they put the pushrod a bit closer to the head than I'd like...but not touching.
So I decided to just use the Comps and return Gary's EBs and get this show on the road. As you probably know, the adjustable plates have a "right" and a "left" side, eight of each required. The brand new unopened box, delivered by Summit, marketed by Comp, has seven right side plates and nine left side plates....yeah, that makes sixteen so what's your problem. Can't believe.
Maybe I really am supposed to take it all back to stone stock...certainly tempted.
Well dang, the EBs don't put the exh. pushrod quite as close to the head as the new comps so I'll order a set of EBs. Minimum delivery time is a week (estimated) from Amazoon. Tohellwithit! I ain't waitin' another week! So I now have half a set of Comp adjustable and half a set of EB fixed plates in the engine. Doing that mitigated the really close pushrods and I didn't tell the engine I was mixing parts...which I hate to do but I'm can't see where that will matter in this instance.
Crap...all we get anymore is crap. I'm glad I'm too old to do another car. Don't think I could stand it.

Ya Bob, I kind of feel the same way anymore. I will always stick with flat tappet cams so I don't have to worry about a cam gear failing and all the other stuff that goes with a roller conversion. I know we aren't talking about Cleveland's here, but as in stock factory Iron form, they still can put up a good fight and still drive across country several times without a worry.

Well Rich, you know I like the unusual stuff...like '32 Bangers with OHV conversions. Heck, a Cleveland is like way modern.
