The truth known, the reason Ford changed stats was probably to help meet government emission requirements.

It certainly didn't hurt emissions, and it helped mileage as well.  Remember CAFE is a part of what OEMs must consider when determining things like t-stat temperature too.

Using a 180 degree T-Stat in mine. 
I believe when the manufacturers went to the 195 degree in the late sixties/early seventies, it was to reduce emissions.  If one is using a clutch fan, note that it is calibrated to the thermostat temperature.  At least that is my experience years ago when I replaced a 195 for a 180 on my tow vehicle and ended up with cooling issues when towing.  Reinstalled the 195, issues went away.

I am running a 180.

The 70 Cleveland did come with a 192. Windsor had 180.


Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.
