Oil Separator in Classic Pony

A few weeks back I was at the Original Venice Crew’s garage checking out all the cool gt350s they’re building and noticed that some of them had oil separators as seen in the picture below.

Is anyone running one on their pony? On the gt350, it had the passenger and driver valve cover hoses running to the catch can. On my current car, I have a hose that runs from the passenger side valve cover to my carb spacer and the driver side valve cover has a hose that runs to the air cleaner. If I instal an oil separator, how would I run my hoses if I still wanted to run a hose to the carb spacer? If I mimic the set up I saw on the gt350 am I creating a potential issue in the future if I don’t run a hose to the carb spacer?

Thanks

Re: Oil Separator in Classic Pony

Its something guys who race do.  The idea is that when the engine is tuned on the ragged edge oil vapor doesn't burn like fuel and can cause detonation, etc.  I've run them on turbo cars before.  How well they work depends mostly on how the system is designed.  For most cars I think they are overkill.

Re: Oil Separator in Classic Pony

The PCV valve goes to the carb spacer.  The carb spacer would still be used as a vacuum source to pull through the oil collector, placed between the pcv and the vacuum source, unless the collector also includes the pcv. I have been considering using a collector on my 427 since I get a little bit of oil consumption from oil mist bypassing the valve cover baffle.

If your engine is not consuming oil due to bypassing the valve cover baffle, I see zero reason to run an oil collector.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.
